I have a confession to make.. I have an addiction.. The bun chicken with spicy sauce at this little cafe. It is delicious! It's a great mix of noodles, salad, a sprinkling of peanuts, and lots and lots of lovely fresh herbs. It's great.. You gotta try it..
This is my favourite little Asian food spot. It's really small and busy, but wicked. The soups are amazing. Going here loads right now. Really hits the spot.
Loving this place at the moment.. Always great food and service. It's a lively little place too, which I like. Good music too. The salads here are great, and be sure to try the iced coffee after you eat - great stuff.
I was looking forward to trying Pho since it had been many years since I travelled in Vietnam and had the real stuff. My Vietnamese friend reccomended we meet there for dinner. It is a small bustling restaurant with plenty of after work diners. To start with we shared a Vietnamese crepe which was filled with prawns, chicken and beanspouts. This was huge and would have been enough for one person's dinner. The crepe was deep fried so rather greasy and it was quite hard to eat. Next we both had the lemongrass beef vermicelli noodles. This came in massive bowls with the noodles at the bottom and yet more beansprouts on the top. You had to stir in the sauce they give you - mine was meant to be spicy but wasn't really. Beef was very dry and salty. Took ages to finish - it seemed like there was just countless of beansprouts to get through. I'm not an expert on Vietnamese food but if this is the real thing - give me Wagamamas anyday. Also by the time we left at about 8pm it was really busy and the noise levels were intolerable. Not sure i'd come back.
Pho is a fun and funky new-age Vietnamese caff with great, inexpensive food. The menu is pretty simple - they do a few variations of pho, the classic noodle soup, plus bun (which is a bowl of noodles with veggies, sauce, and your choice of tofu, prawns, beef or chicken), and some salads and Vietnamese baguettes. The starters are yummy too, especially the rice paper rolls. Apparently there is curry in the evening as well but I've not tried it as I'm always at Pho for lunch! I like the #17 (bun with prawns and spicy sauce) the best.
The flavours are very simple and fresh, and the staff are very friendly and happy to explain how the food all works together.
Be sure to try the iced coffee with your bowl of pho, or a flowering green tea!
It can be very busy at lunchtime so be sure to come early. I think they do takeaway too, but be prepared to queue!
