Reviews for El Rincon Quiteno

If you’ve had a hard time of it chasing a shuttlecock around the Sobell Leisure Centre and are feeling way too healthy, there is a small Ecuadorean cafe on the Holloway Road where you can eat a meat feast for under a tenner. What you read on the menu is what you get, but be prepared for the deep friedness! Pique Macho is a Bolivian dish of epic proportions - a mountain of beef with rivers of mayonnaise squeezed on top. Urban legend has it that if you can finish one on your own, you are properly macho; it’s a pity we didn’t know that before ordering a main each, as well as those plantains smothered in cheese to start… Churrasco Equatoriano took my fancy as I didn’t really know what to expect of a dish containing plantain, avocado, fried egg, meat, rice and chips. By the time the food arrived, we had already quaffed one of the huge bottles of beer that they serve for a fiver and were salivating in anticipation of the freshly made food. But like I said, what you see is what you get - all the ingredients are cooked separately and laid out on the plate. It was certainly very colourful and I wish I’d had my camera with me. As we chugged through our meals we did look longingly at the soup and mussels being enjoyed at the table across the room and thought, next time next time we won’t be so greedy.
They sometimes have loud, hip swinging Latin music belting out on a Friday & Saturday night - with the odd live act. The sunny music and the yellow and red cafe front certainly snazzes up the grimy grimness of the Holloway Road. This dowdy grey thoroughfare needs all the sunshine, colour and pizazz it can get. The authentic latin American nosh is good and different. At a slightly higher price it can leave your wallet forlorn and deflated if you opt to have more than a single course. Guess you pay more for that Salsa buzz.
I discovered this little Ecuadorean restaurant by chance as I happen to live a few seconds from Holloway Road tube station. Its the sort of place you could walk by without noticing (Holloway Road is full of take-aways and dives) but I am so glad I popped in one day.
This little Ecuadorean restaurant servs genuine South American fare of a high standard, with food that tastes home-cooked because it really is home-cooked. The steaks are always cooked as you want them, with the traditional plantain and refried beans on the side. All the famous meat dishes of Ecuador are on the menu and I have tried them all and can guarantee you won't be disappointed.
George and his father run the place with a hospitality classic of South America, making sure you have fun and feel like you are at home (they know me by my name and welcome me and any of my guests as if we were family!)When you walk in you feel like you are stepping into South America!
Ecuadorean beers are topped up and the food comes in good time, but you never feel rushed. They really want you to enjoy the experience of their cosy restuarant at your leisure.
Its just 2 mins from Holoway Road tube, turn right at the rube station and wlak up Holloway Road, you can't miss it on your right! I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I do!
