Reviews for Fifteen
I was very excited when I received the menu as it all sounded very good. However it turned out be a bit of a disappointment. The food was ok, but you expect excellent food when you pay £70/person.
The staff was very friendly and helpful
I got taken to Fifteen for a special birthday dinner. I had watched the series where Jamie Oliver set up the restaurant, and for that reason it was extra fun! But I am a sucker for media hype.
Our pasta starters were ok - we didn't have the antipasto, but wish we did, it looked amazing. Mains and desserts were excellent - we completely stuffed ourselves. The food was really nice, staff really friendly - our bill was very expensive though - but it was a special occassion and we had 3 courses, wine and coffee. Good for a special occassion and for groups (if they are not on a budget)
Amazing beef carpaccio and perfect Tuna steak - really wanted a dessert as well but as it was a business lunch didn't feel I could order one as no one else had! :) The wine list was extensive but my colleague chose a fabulous white which tasted exactly like lychees and was probably the best white I have ever tasted.
I was not really sure what to expect following all the hype but I was very impressed. The decor/ location was interesting (graffiti and strange sunken seating areas with very high windows below pavement level).
I'll definitely be going back (although may perhaps have to save up for a while unless another business lunch crops up somethime soon...:)
The restaurant downstairs is great. Make sure you do the wine taster menu as well as the Sommelier, Paul, has an astounding knowledge on wine and his enthusiasm for what he has matched to your meal is unrivalled.
hmmm, fifteen, and i was wondering what was all the fuss about.
i went there with my freinds thinking its a social experiment place and we should support it. if its bringing any good to society.
staff was really good and enjoyed the service but i think prices were bit over the top.
We ate at the Trattoria part of the restaurant.
Started with champaign at the bar whilst we wait for our table. Staff were the best, especially Lauren and Brendon. Loved the antipasti starter. I ordered the Duck Confit with Lentils. Duck confit was done properly, fall off the bone yet the skin was crisp. My friend had the seafood risotto , it was nice but just like any other.
Dessert was disappointing, we had a chocolate brownie served with crème fraîche à l'orange and a pecan pie with vanilla cream. I can make the two desserts better on my own.
We ate in the Trattoria, which combines good dining with a relaxed, casual candle-lit atmosphere. No one was too dressy and it was easy to feel at ease and blend in. Sometimes I think that posh restaurants, especially celebrity restaurants, can be a bit intimidating to your average diner, but this was certainly not the case here.
The table bread was good and served with delicious olive oil and balsamic vinegar – you could really taste the quality. For the first course I had pasta and my partner had a risotto – both delicious (the benefit of being a woman means you get to try his too!) Freshly made and perfectly cooked, it was noticeably different from your average Italian food. We both had the Steak for our main course, which was also great. The essence of the food here is that it is very simple but very high quality. Accompanied by a very reasonably priced bottle of Prossecco and followed by coffee, we had a great evening. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient but not over-attentive. The waiter kept our wine bottle in the fridge and refilled our glasses whenever they ran low without interrupting our conversation.
I would like to go back and try the restaurant downstairs, but the benefit of the Trattoria is that it is that little bit cheaper and that little bit easier to book a table.
rubbish - had the tapas in the bar area, never spent so much for so little, of which the quality was so poor my 7 year old would have been embarrassed to have served that home.
I'm not a fan of Jamie Oliver, I find his lovable rogue act a little grating. However, since my wife has a soft spot for the Mockney rebel I booked us in to Fifteen as an anniversary surprise.
After a couple of (very good) Margheritas we headed down into the restaurant where we both went for the 7 course tasting menu with the accompanying wine package to boot.
Now - I can tell you that the first four courses were exquisite and the wine was fantastic... however, I'm afraid the rest of the evening disappears into a bit of a blur. I'm told I liked all of the remaining dishes and I've no reason not to believe my wife so I'll grade this restaurant as a 5.
Unfortunately (for my wife), we didn't get to meet the grinning loon himself, though he was present at the restaurant. He was doing the rounds of the tables while we were eating "alright matey" "'ows yer beef me old cocker?" etc, but unfortunately (for my wife) Johnathan Ross was at the table behind us and Mr Oliver decided he'd much rather talk to him than to the unknown and innebriated peons at the next table - oh well, never mind :)
A great place for breakfast on Sundays, awesome full English with top quality ingredients, lovely fresh juices, top notch coffee, and a great way to eat at Fifteen without breaking the bank!
