Tapas are ok, but don't go near the paella
When I first moved to London I found myself absolutely entranced by Angel. It was fun and appealed to a younger crowd without the hipper-than-thou attitude that has permeated Shoreditch and no longer makes it any fun to hang out in.
This was one of the first places I went to and on my second return I was really let down. The first time I went was in the middle of the afternoon; the weather was gorgeous so we sat outside and chose a selection of tapas from their board - they run a decent deal - the tapas were ok, but the portions were small and it wasn't too exciting. Nevertheless I enjoyed myself while I was there but I think it might have had a lot to do with the company I was in...
The second time I went there, we ordered the paella and it was absolutely horrid. Not enough rice and too much seafood - for a seafood lover it might have been heaven, but the mixed meats were stringy and flavourless.
The drinks are expensive and the staff can be phenomenally rude, even arrogant. There's no need for attitude, especially if as a diner, I am helping to pay your wages - being polite is only in their best interests, as it brings about more in tips!!
Every time I pass this place I want to go by and have a drink on their mini patio, but I definitely won't be eating there again... if you're looking for a good place to people-watch and sit outside, then this is a good spot for it, but otherwise stay away!
