Reviews for Gurkha's Restaurant
This is a superb restaurant which takes great care of its diners and provides delicious authentic Gurkha cuisine. The menu is varied and
they change it from time to time and include such interesting dishes as the staff's favourite curry!
It is impeccably clean and well-presented with starched white tablecloths and napkins. The wonderful deep red velvet chairs are immensely reassuring and help one feel like an honoured guest.
The staff are friendly and helpful without being pushy.
they are also knowledgeable about the cuisine and can make sensible recommendations.
It is always a treat to go to Gurkhas - it takes away the cares of the world and the day!
Gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday night so worth booking in advance.
Good value buffet on Sundays lunch-time.
I am %100 with Moomoo on this place.
Most important things first, the staff are always very polite.
As soon as I enter, I am greeted with 2 waiters waiting to take me and my familys coats and jackets etc.
Then when we have sat down, we are treated with a complimentary drink of some kind, and some very nice poppadoms with an assortment of dips.
The food arrives quickly, (not so quickly its suspicious though) and usually is usually very tasty. I would strongly recommend the Bombay Potatoes and Lentil Dhal.
Overall, very nice and polite, food is great, and good value too, lots of food for average prices.
Who ever wrote the first review is not realistic. The staff are great, you can not expect people from Katmandu (for example) to speak with the same accent as people form South East London. Ive been to Nepal and Nepalese people are great. The happiest people Ive ever meet are form The Himalayas and this restaraunt is liekwise full of happy staff from all parts of Nepal. The food is great when ever I have been. It is more varied than traditronal dhal bat (lentils, veg curry, and plain rice) one might get in Nepal. However they will do a dhal bat upon request. Id recommend to people to go to this restaruant and talk to the staff about where they come from and why they chose to come Britain; rather than say they dont speak proper sarf east london. Enjoy. Im a regular and love it. Great value too.
I went on a Sunday in February 2008 for a buffet lunch. It was okay, but then I was very hungry. The waiter asked something three times that I couldn't make out; turned out he was asking if I wanted my coat hanging up. His colleague appeared seconds later. He might be the drinks waiter. He said Drink. That's all. Drink. I said maybe, what have you got?. Nothing happened. No drink, no list, no nothing. I ate
(a) so-called tandoori chicken, covered in a slightly bitter red paste
(b) two bits of chicken in cream (korma)
(c) some pilau rice, nicely cooked (not crispy and hard)
(d) garlicky dal (the star)
and (e) a lamb curry that was truly uninspiring. For £6.99.
I left before the "Drink" guy returned!
