Reviews for Wagamama
If you are used to normal restaurants and have never been to a Wagamammas before then you might be in for a bit of a culture shock. There are very few 2 seat tables, instead lots of long benches where customers sit side by side and facing each other, much like a school canteen. The food also tends to turn up in whatever order it is cooked in – no concept of starters or side orders which can be a bit daunting at first, but soon you are into the swing of things. Bowls of food tend to be large and tasty with lots of spicy options available and enough for most vegetarians – assuming you like Japanese and are pretty handy with a set of chopsticks (you can get a fork if you ask)!
A lot of Wagamamas are in basement locations around London, and they are pretty basically decorated but in some ways that adds to the appeal. They are ideal for quick after work dinners with a friend or even a party with the bench seating lending itself to large groups; but probably not suited to a first date with, unless you think you can impress with your chopstick-fu!
Wagamama in Covent Garden is just off the main market square. It is down a lot of steep steps and is quite dark. The tables are long benches so you have to sit with other people. The service is very quick and friendly, although sometimes it feels as though they want to get rid of you quick. You can see the chefs preparing the dishes from your table.
The food comes to your table very quick. It was so quick I wondered if they had microwaved it. The chicken tama rice was nice. The chicken ramen was a big bowl of soup and noodles and it was difficult to eat without splashing over everyone. I had a 2for1 voucher so two of us were able to eat out for only £8. It's always worth waiting for the vouchers as it makes it great value to eat there.
Wagamama in spite of its curious name is a great eatery, in the heart of this area. The kids love it, its great for kids, families, students in fact, it is great for noodle lovers every where. I have yet to try the soups but am always tempted when I see them being delivered to people, they look really scrummy and piping hot. The meals at this place are very filling and great value for money. Very relaxed places to eat, if a little noisy, but of course the more popular the restaurant the more customers and therefore more noise. But I actually think it is just part of the whole experience.
I've been to Wagamama's a few times now and they have never failed to satisfy me. The food is always served quickly, it's always tasty and it's not too expensive. the portion sizes are generous and the staff are always efficient!
I really do love wagamamas.
One of the few places now that serve REAL Japanese food now.
It is very noisy, but its so big, what would one expect?
I usually go for a soup, which comes in a massive portion and tastes good everytime. And all the food comes in one of those cool - modern - authentic looking wooden bowls with the cool spoons, which is nice since its a change.
The service is good, staff are always polite and food comes promptly.
Also, reasonable prices for such large portions, I would usually complain about the prices, but the portions are so big!
Highly recommended
I'm a big fan of Wagamamas- the food is good quality and absolutely delicious. The average main course ranges from £6.15 to £10- very reasonable prices and the portions are generous. It does tend to get a bit loud in Wagamama branches but that does vary depending which branch you go to. I would definetly recommend Wagamamas for a good eat
I absolutely love Wagamama, and the Covent Garden Branch is no exception - in fact, I found the food to be better than a lot of the other branches, which surprised me. There seemed to be a lot more flavours and spice than in some of the other restaurants I've visited, which was a very nice surprise!
The food is very reasonably priced in my opinion - £7-8 for a main meal, and it's particularly good if you can grab one of the 2 for 1 vouchers that are regularly found in various publications and on websites. It is, as many people have said, much like a fast food restaurant - you're not encouraged to sit down and have a lengthy conversation over your meal, but you're not always looking for that . My friend and I popped in the other day befor we went to the theatre, because we needed something fairly speedy, and it didn't disappoint! Its all about the expectatin you go in there with, really.
Again, not really the place to go on a date or something intimate - you're seated at long tables/benches and often next to other parties, so not the place for a big heart to heart!
The Covent Garden restaurant in particular can get VERY crowded, due to its location, but if you can time your visit right you'll barely have a wait at all!
All in all, I absolutely love it!
Great food , in - out very quick but you dont always want sat down all night when there are all the cool bars within 5 mins walk
The food here was great, really tasty and extremely quickly served, talking 5 minutes max! That said this is not the place to come for an enjoyable, realxing meal. Its crazy in here, the que normally stretches way out the door- we have to wait half an hour, Not that we minded too much.
When we got in it was very noisy, we practically had to shout to hear anything. Our waitress was very, very rude - not at all polite or friendly which ruined the evening a bit. That said if you want a quick bite to eat (not including the time you might have to wait for a table) this place does great food, with massive portions at a decent price. Just hope you dont get stuck with the evil waitress....
I have lost count of the number of times I have been here. It has a lively atmosphere, the service is quick and the food is good. I would definitely recommend the ramen and noodles dishes. Excellent for students like myself who want a good meal that is filling and won't cost too much.
