Reviews for Bento Cafe

OK it's not as amazing as Asukusa, and in fact I've seen the staff from Bento eating out down there on one occasion, but as far as local, affordable and tasty Japanese food goes the Bento Cafe delivers. It's not the most luxurious place in the world, but you wouldn't be going there if that's what you wanted.

The food comes quickly, the sushi is well made - try the fusion-ish Volcano Rolls as my recomendation, and the green tea is endless. It's a perfect local Japanese restaurant for the people in the area - like me - who often want sushi everyday and not just as a treat.

In my opinion this is the best place for Japanese food in London. I like it so much firstly because of the quality of the food which is superb, a great mix of sushi and other Japanese dishes, the atmosphere is always buzzing and for what you get, the prices are very reasonable. Black cod with miso, mushroomed baked in foil and the sushi rolls are our favourites.
NB - you always need to book!

Decent sushi, and food but the service leaves a lot to be desired in the few times I have been there.

Being in Camden and serving damn good food, this place is unsurprisingly busy, so you might have to wait for a table if you haven't booked. I reckon it's worth the wait though - not the cheapest restaurant in the world, but still good value and the sushi is really fresh and excellent quality. The bento boxes are great too. The waiters can look a little fraught, but overall my experience of the service has bene good (though I know some reviewers have had negative experiences). It also gets a bit noisy - especially if you're two people sitting next to a table of 6 people being drunk and loud - but the positives outweight the negatives and I'll be going back.

An Excellent place for lunch if you work in the area. It might not be the mind blowing bento/sushi experience you're looking for but its always tasty and there is plenty to choose from. Fairly affordable and filling without making you too sleepy to go back to work.

The one downside is they still allow smoking, so if this bothers you prepare to be dissapointed.

Otherwise a place a like to frequent.

I'd forgotten about this place until I was browsing the site. This little restaurant is a little forgettable all round really. I like my Japanese food, sushi, sashimi, bento, it is all good. This place does it all well, not really memorable for anything, it is just one of an increasing number of japanese restaurants in the capital.

If you are in Camden and looking for somewhere reasonable to eat then this is deffinately a good place to try, but don't make a trip for it.

Have to disagree with Ragados. Tried many Sushi restaurants in London and Bento is the best I have found. Huge range of dishes, from the freshest Suchi to salads to grilled fish and good bento boxes, all beautifully presented and with good taste and quality. Been going regularly for several years, definitely worth a special trip! Don't miss the delicious sushi salad or the amazing black cod.

Similar to Cafe Japan in terms of food (good but nothing amazing), it's a nice little place to go to if you're in Camden as it's right next to the station and opposite Jazz Cafe. The staff is friendly and the restaurant big enough to accommodate a large group of people.

So if Asakusa is the authentic kick-ass sushi place and Nobu the uber-trendy, but uber-expensive japanese restaurant, then Bento falls somewhere in the middle. The food is good, the prices reasonable and the staff are really friendly and will fill up your green-tea cup as soon as it finishes. The usual menu applies, but I have to say that every time that I got something on a hot-plate it was not that great.

Great little place overall if you're around Camden. Its location next to the Jazz Cafe also makes it an ideal pre-night out choice
