Reviews for Sketch

Took my now fiancee there the night I proposed.

Didn't see any of these amazing rooms you've all mentioned. Just shown to restaurant which I thought was S***.
No windows, pretentious, food was disgusting. So up it's own arse. And it was cold, air con blasting.
Good job I proposed at the hotel instead.

I had dinner with friends in the Gallery last week and wow! I have never seen anything like it before; the food was delicious and we were entertained by the most amazing video art projections. I will definately visit again soon, if not for dinner then just to the bar.

If you're looking for somewhere seriously unusual and don't mind pushing the boat out, I think it's hard to beat Sketch. I went with three friends for a big birthday and it was a treat, more like a theatrical performance than a simple dinner. From the pre-dinner drinks on a crimson chaise longue, to the succession of seven main courses and then four different types of dessert (might have been five, was slightly confused by then), it was memorable. OK, some of the flavours were eccentric to say the least, and at first I thought we'd end up starving hungry because the portions were teeny, but we filled up very nicely. The waiters were great, the decor amazing if bizarre at times. Didn't like the other diners, though, they were very po-faced with that kind of expense-account ennui. Go, enjoy, be prepared to come away considerably poorer, and as others have said, you'll love it or hate it but you won't forget it.

We dropped into Sketch for some post-dinner tea and cake on Saturday night and, having passed some life-sized models of greyhounds laying about in the hallway, were seated in the dining area - a striking mix of sugary white baroque furniture and contemporary multi-media imagery being projected around the walls. I liked it very much.

In the event we found we couldn't squeeze down any cake, so just ordered a pot of Earl Grey each. Er... what can I say? It was a very nice cup of tea. (I don't think having just a drink is normally allowed in the dining room, but the staff didn't make a fuss.)

On the way out I also had a quick look around the adjoining lounge bar - a haven of low lighting, low tables, low sofas, and brown and red decor which apparently looks just as good during the day as it does at night. To my everlasting regret, however, I didn't visit the toilets that everyone seems to be mentioning here. Damn!

Depending on who you are, what you do and how you were raised, you'll either find Sketch pricey and pretentious, or one of the coolest places to go / been seen in.

It is a bit special, but still remaining accessible to the majority.

The decor is surreal, the loo's, as most have mentioned bizarre and the general ambience a bit off key in a nice way!

Filled with different rooms which cater for dinner, lunch, drink you're never lost with options when you're there. A decent selection of wine, cakes, snacks and of course meals.

It does everything well, but not the best, however your surroundings make up for that.

Really nice place to go for a mid-afternoon drink, be it alcoholic or otherwise!

I went to Sketch once and I won't be going back. The decor is cool and it's nice to see something a bit different. The toilets are, as everyone says, amazing and should be seen, but perhaps the lavish decor is accountable for the extortionate drinks prices. I was not happy to be charged £16 for two drinks.
I wouldn't recommend this bar, but if you're a celeb-hound who likes to be seen in the latest "in" place regardless of the quality of the venue, then this may be the perfect bar for you

Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. A triumph of coolness, design and trendyness over food and common sense.

I do recommend going though to look at the loos which are a surreal room full of pods. V amusing and quite other-worldly...well worth a visit.

I did go for a big group meal, so maybe I didn't get to taste the 'normal menu' but surely you always have to put your best foot forward?

what a stylish place is sketch!
If you don't have the money just go for it for the interiors- have a bottle of beer for £5 but get the chance to stay in this place for a while. Go to a different toilet as much as you can and try a different toilet each time each time- Don't miss the white spacey ones... I had a dinner there on one occasion- it was expensive but fantastic. The staff are dressed in a very cool way- when I was there they had smart shirts and black all star shoes- careful attention to detail. The menus at the bar were beautifully designed as a newspaper (probably changed by now). Check the gallery if you are there during morning/noon.

This restaurant was both the most surreal and the coolest restaurant I have ever been to. i went for valentines day which is also my birthday and it was the perfect venue. It was a while ago and i can't remember exactly what I ate but it was nice. i remembr thinking the food wasn't as good as the decor but that was so stunning i didn't care. The walls were projected with movig images and there were pink partitioning structures and cute little white chairs. i felt very very special just sitting there. The toilets are the best though. The cubicals are giant eggs and as you sit on the loo barn yard noises make you feel like a chicken about to hatch in some strange dream. After the meal i was presented with a little liberty's bag with a bar of liberty's soap. Very cute. It was also expensive. But I wasn't paying and my boyfried seemed very happy to.

As the other reviews will tell you the decor of Sketch is something else, and it's definately worth poping in for coffee and one of the perfectly sculpted pastries (as they should be with the involvement of uber pastry chef Pierre Gagnaire), just to be greeted by the supermodelesque maitre 'd who has the backdrop of a staircase which looks as though it's had a ton of molten chocolate poured down it.
Anyway.....I was there for lunch on a monday, and as the rest of the place is closed that time of week, our only option was to eat in the Parlour. The menu was a choice of four starters, and four mains and dessert courtesy of the extensive array of afore mentioned pastries on display in the glass counter which welcomes you as you enter the room.
Our chosen starters were the marinaded vegetables and the fried duck egg with curry froth, and they did exactly what they said on the tin, no fuss or frills, but very well cooked with punchy, bold flavours. The main courses were equally well cooked, the butter roasted monkfish served beautifully opaque, and my duck with a rich caramelied skin yet moist pink flesh.
Then it was on to the pastry 'bar' for dessert, the only problem here was choosing from the 20 or so pant-wettingly good treats on offer.
The meal for two with a couple of glasses of plonk and bottle of water came to £65, which i would say was pretty good value, and not as hiddously overpriced as some reviews would have you think. My only gripe with Sketch was the two members of waiting staff who dealt with our table. They were abrupt rather than friendly, although that could just have been down to being very busy and having a full restaurant to look after.
