All the food at Ottolenghi is made in their kitchens, right below the shops. The Ottolenghi philosophy requires that everything is hand crafted with extreme care and attention, from basic raw ingredients. The croissants, for example, are made in the traditional French way over three days, using French flour and butter. The vegetables are delivered early in the morning from the market to be freshly prepared for the day. This branch has a dining area where you can enjoy their fantastic food.

Reviews for Ottolenghi

Now the food here (mainly salad, breads and cold meats) is just amazing tasting and even better looking. But it really isn't cheap.

Four types of salad on a plate for £13 (i think) is a lot, even if they are the nicest salads I've ever tasted.

So until my pockets get deeper or my live of salad gets stronger I might stick to walking past, drooling and stealing ideas for salads to make at home!

NB: I have eaten at the one on Upper Street, Islington

Food is amazing. Better chances of winning the lottery than getting one of the half a dozen seats inside though - so the place is only take away really.

Expensive! Very expensive! is the first thing that comes to mind, but then again, the food is excellent (and nicely presented). You'll find things like homemade taboule, borghul, salads adorned of pomegranates, cold salmon fillets, and loads more. If you have a sweet tooth, plenty to offer on that front too, from brownies to apple strudels. I've not been there often, but the lunchboxes were quite the highlight of the day when I went. Good for a posh picnic in a nearby park once in a while or as Sokratis nicely put it, if you've had a hard day's work and earned a treat..

Ottolenghi is quite a place for some pretty amazing take away or sit down lunch. Everything is freshly made to a really high standard of quality. The food is mediterranean, but not too particular to either Spain, France, Italy or Greece. Mind you the place is really expensive and the way you choose your food does not help. You have to choose what and how much you want. Everything looks and tastes so good, so before you know it you've spent more than a tenner on a small lunch box. Go if you had a hard day's work and you earned it.
