Eye Candy but Overrated
Been hearing about Paul Boulangerie & Pattiserie for ages. I finally went to one of the chain (Covent Garden) in the hunt for THE croissant place in London. You see, I'm quite a croissant connoisseur. I had a pain au chocolat. It was slightly disappointing. It was a bit stale and dry, perhaps it was towards the end of the day. But the display of various flans, cakes, tarts, claufouti and sweets sure look delicious!

A taste of France in London
Although I genreally dislike chain stores, Paul is an exception.
This French cafe (which you can find dotted throughout London) have good coffee, great cakes and treats as well as yummy bagetts and salads for those looking for an escape from the high street hustle and bustle.
They also do great breads.
The more I visit Paul the more impressed I am with the quality of food and service.
You must try their strawberry charlotte cake as well OMG its to die for.

chain bistro
Just like the Paul's in other countries - french bistro look.
However the food choice is not amazing compared to their menus in Dubai. Most of the food had pork in it which is a big problem for veggies and muslims. The choice otherwise was minimal. They didnt have the amazing chicken quiche. The prices are also high for is just a chain bistro. The venue here was small as well.
It's ok but not somewhere i would go to in a hurry again. If you want to buy patisserie like goodies Soho has much better choice and its only up the road.

It is not always easy to find good cafes for informal business meetings with visitors from continental Europe. Paul in Covent Garden is my favourite as it is central, charming, offers good coffee and snacks, and the atmosphere is much better than Starbucks et al.

French Patisserie & Bakery
Paul is a chain of French Patisseries that have started popping up all over London. I first visited Paul when I was in Paris and when they started to appear in London I knew I was in for a treat. If you aren't familiar with Paul then you really should be - if you have a sweet tooth you won't regret it!
Part of the appeal of Paul to me is their fabulous window displays filled with various fresh baked breads, cakes and pastries. It is hard to walk buy without wanting to buy a treat or two.
Paul is great for takeaway bread, cakes & coffees, or alternatively there is usually a seating area if you want to relax with a snack or naughty sweet treat. They also do these amazing, colourful macaroons - you can buy a box of the mini ones to take away, which also make a lovely gift.

Voulez vous manger avec moi?
As Walid pointed out, in France, Paul is not considered that highly as it has so many great patisseries to compete with, and generally the French don't like chains (and they're right not to!). But when it comes to decent patisseries in England, beggars can't be choosers. I especially like the Paul in Covent Garden as it has a restaurant extension to the bakery, and that has great 19th century (I think!) dcor (although the queues can be a bit long). Paul has a wide range of patisseries, bread and savoury tarts. The feel as you come into the place is definitely French, as most of the waiters and bakery staff seem to speak it.

French Bakery & Pastries
Paul is a large chain of bakeries and pastries in France and across the world. There are a few in London, which is great as there was so little choice for finding good bread and pastries. Whilst it is great that they are here and most people consider them to be of great quality, in France people consider Paul not as highly as Londoners do. You have to remember we have a huge selection of local family run bakers to choose from ;-)
In any case I'll give Paul a 4 star as I live in London now and except from Paul & Maison Blanc the choice is limited. However be aware that there's always a queue for the salon de the.
