138 Portobello Road, London, W11 2DZ

The craving (and difficulty) in finding a quality loaf sparked Ran Avidan and Tom Molnar’s entrepreneurial drive to open GAIL's artisan bakery. They left their safe city jobs to team up with Gail Stephens, founder of Baker and Spice and The Bread Factory - a small artisan bakery supplying London’s who’s who of top chefs. It was here Ran and Tom developed their vision to take the bread top chefs enjoyed and put it within hands reach of Londoners. We still think it is better to make a great potato & rosemary sourdough than pocket a few extra pence – we’re 100% chemical free!

Reviews for Gail's

After a visit to the very interesting Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising, a coffee was in order and the first place we came across was the inviting looking Gail's on Portobello Road.

Gail's is a bakery and café which has a mouth-watering array of tasty looking goodies, along with a variety of fresh baked breads including the biggest loaf of sourdough I have ever seen!

The four of us took a while to decide what we wanted to eat with our coffee - everything looked great. In the end we opted for a healthy-ish muffin, a cute little pecan tart, a ricotta babka, and a mini maple cake. All were very good, apart from the maple cake which tasted like it had been sitting around for a couple of days. Plotting a return visit though for some of that sourdough.

Heavenly bread, cakes and savory bits. Coffee is the best in Notting Hill I think along with their pain au chocolates. They have outside tables (with heaters) and limited seating inside (downstairs they have made into a comfy seating area but up top is not so comfy.

Totally mad on the weekend with the market crowd around but during the week you can usually get a table. If not grab some bread to take home, it is truly divine.

Part of a chain (The other branch is in Hampstead).
Gail is a cafe/bakery. We tried some of the quiche and they were superb! The bread looks amazing and the place itself is nice to sit in. The service was just one big mistake but I will forgive them because they have just opened and I am sure they will be ok by now. Even just for the bread, give it a try...
I was walking in the street and saw one of their delivery cars with a sign saying ‘Gail's Force'... That's really funny... sounds like a secrete operation to bring bread in time to Gail's cafes...
