Reviews for The Cambridge Theatre

Having just seen a review here I am wondering if we saw the same show. It was not suzanne shaw as roxy when we went to see it so may be thats the difference, but we had a great time and really enjoyed it. The jazz band that played the music were incorporated on to the stage so that it felt like you were in a sleazy , smokey old jazz club. The band were good. The cast were wonderful, the dancing superb and the guy who played the lawyer had a good voice. Our seats were in the stalls and were very good, not sure if the higher seats were as good though. A good show, but the theatre is a little tucked away and could be easy to miss.

This theatre is a little of the main roads and a bit hard to find. We rencently saw chicago there and we really enjoyed the show. Our seats were about 6 rows from the front so we could see really well, but the seats as in most of these old theatres are not all that comfy, not much leg room etc. We thought the lady who played mama morton was good as was roxy's long suffering hubby, ( a well known tv actor). The cast and band were great and it was an enjoyable evening for us. My only real grouch is the price of soft drinks and ice creams which were really high, too much if there are three or four of you. Other than that it was a good show well performed.

I couldn't bring myself to give it less than 3 stars but actually I would say 2.5/5! I have been to see about 6/7 shows this year in theatreland and unfortunately would say Chicago was the worst :(

Suzanne Shaw was a bit rubbish as Roxy Hart and really ruined it for me. Maybe it was supposed to be overacted and a silly American voice but I just found it annoying. The woman who played Velma was excellent however and a great singer. The real stars were the lady who played Mamma Morton and Roxy's husband - they were both really good!

My friends liked it more than I did but weren't impressed either. Sorry to be a misery - it wasn't awful, just a taste thing maybe?! Shows are never bad but this definitely wasn't good!

I went to see Chicago with a friend, and we booked our tickets last minute, less than a week ago, yet we got absolutely brilliant seats - in the stalls, on the aisle. The theatre is absolutely brilliant - very atmospheric, and from where we were, we had a brilliant view of the stage and came away very happy. A lot of this, of course, was down to the quality of the performance, but we found the staff to be friendly and accommodating, and would definitely visit the theatre again.

We did, unfortunately, choose one of the hottest days of the year to visit, and without air conditioning the theatre itself was absolutely unbearable. Thankfully, they provided cardboard fans, and it was an amusing sight to see the majority of the audience fanning themselves throughout. Even the bar, which claimed to be air conditioned, did not feel much cooler to us. By its nature, particularly in London, drinks, ice creams and the like were incredibly expensive so we restrained from buying them, but this didn't detract from the experience, in our opinion.
