Unlike the previous reviewer, I have now actually finished studying here and my review is a lot more mixed. The geology/ physics departments that I had experience of were generally good and some of the university collections are quite good. However, compared to other institutions the range of journals and subscriptions are pretty poor and I frequently found myself having to go to the British Library for doing research. I hate to think what all the other universities are like if this is supposedly the 9th best in the world...
If you want to study in London, Imperial College London is better for sciences.

UCL was a pioneering university and was one of the first to offer education to women. It continues to be a pioneer offering taster weekend to children who wouldn't normally think about going to university. there is an excellent history of UCL video on youtube if you would like to find out more.

I will be studying here in september 2008 and simply can't wait. With a current rating of 9th in the world you can see why the entry requirments are so high. Most students require an interview, but you can get in purely on your personal statement. The accomadation does however leave a little bit to desire, as some friends at other universities get more eg bathroom and cleaner, but pay far less.
