The Serpentine Gallery is housed in a small pavilion shaded by trees and holds regular exhibitions displaying a range of modern art. Admission to the gallery is free. They also have a bookshop.

The Serpentine Gallery is in the ideal location to pop-in whilst on a walk through Hyde Park.
This haven for modern art has many high profile artists exhibitions on. My favourite one to date was one by Takashi Murakami, the Japanese artist, several years ago. Anyhow, this is a favourite spot of mine and I tend not to research it but turn up after a good stroll through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.
There is plenty going on at the Serpentine Gallery that I don't know a huge amount about I'm afraid but there seem to be talks, seminars and other projects that are available to the general public. I just go for the exhibitions that seem to change every few months.
There is a great bookshop that has a terrific collection of arts books and post cards that also makes a welcome break from the walk across the park.

ps. Oh and did I mention that it is free and open 10-6pm. Nearest tubes to the Gallery are Knightsbridge, South Kensington and Lancaster Gate...how is that for useful information!
