One of my favourite jazz venues in London, it's a shame it had to move from the old location in Stoke Newington, and the new space has a somewhat odd acoustic to it, but nevertheless it manages to retain the same feel as it always had, and still gets some brilliant acts in.

Great venue for serious Jazz, if that's your sort of thing ... in a modern glass building that shouldn't be as cozy as it is. Nice crowd that's quiet for the music. The Jazz Bar nearby is a decent place grab some drinks before or after.

Jazz up your evenings
Despite its remote location (North East London), The Vortex is definitely worth the visit. I discovered it recently and only been once so far. The Jazz band that was playing that night rocked the place. The venue itself is small but has a cosy home feel to it. Despite its size, it never got too busy, and the crowd was varied, cool, friendly, chilled out. When it comes to the area, I didn't feel very safe there on my own. I met my friends at the venue itself and felt much more comfortable when I left the place with them. We went for a bite at a local Turkish restaurant 2 minutes down the road after the show. The food was delicious and cheap and the place closed late (can't remember its name). The area is very vibrant and cosmopolitan at night. I had a fantastic night and will definitely go there again.

Cosy and charming gig venue
Cool and cosy giig venue. I had a great night out at a Jazz gig last Friday, where J'noir were playing some cool funk jazz. Definitely recommend it. Don't be put off by the area around it.
