Reviews for Koko
I've been to a good few shows at the Koko and have always had a great time. They did a great job in the renovations a few years ago and it looks beautiful in there now. I've always been able to actually see the band I've gone there for, from one or two different levels normally! I recently saw the Living End there, who I haven't seen in over ten years and they were brilliant!
Great place man, many good times here.
You're never waiting too long for a drink. The majority of staff are quite keen to talk to punters too which is great.
For a theatre, it makes a great night club! I used to go here all the time but i set the fire alarm off once by accident and i haven't been back! The door staff were really freindly though and understood.
The only downside to the venue is that its so easy to get lost in the back corridors. Its like a maze!
But it you manage to stay together as a group, its truely an amazing club!
This is one of my favourite venues in London. It's huge with three(ish) glamourous floors of guilding and plush red curtains and seating. It's great!
I love it best for live bands. The sound is mediocre but the atmosphere is fab. The HUGE disco ball is lots fun and adds a whole lotta sparkle!
Downside, the drinks cost a BOMB!! Wayyyyy too overpriced even for London. So bring your cutest piggy bank.
I went here for the first time as part of the iTunes Music festival. The space is versatile and I believe the stage is probably easily viewable from all areas. The womens toilets were nice and clean although the layout seemed slightly confused a points (especially when they were ushering everyone out of the building.)
The lighting was fine but the sound did falter and there were a few difficulties. I’ve been told by many that the bar is over-priced, they are reluctant to even give you tap water and as posted below/quote from a friend, “the NME club nights are really shit and truly a last resort for a night out.”
Extremely strict on forms of identification so if in doubt, rely on either a passport or drivers licence.
I used to live just around the corner from Koko, and while it is very big, it does get very, very busy...and hot! The drinks are extremely overpriced (£5 for a beer, £6 for a plastic cup of wine!!) It is a great place to go to a gig though, good atmosphere. I would suggest going to the Crescent pub (just across the road) for some pre gig cheap drinks!! Try not to lose your friends as you may never find them, ever again! Other than that, a good venue!
PS! The NME 'club nights' are ok if you're 12 or under!!
Went here for the iTunes festival 2008 - queued outside for a couple of hours and got free tickets to see Pendulum/InMe. Pretty good value. The club is like nothing I have ever seen before - an old theatre with multiple stories so you can see the stage from wherever you are. Brilliant atmosphere.
My only gripe was that there weren't enough toilets (3). Would love to go again.
koko is a good night out but pick your night right as it has a night for everything.
the drink in here is at around average london prices of £4-£5 a drink(which to some may seem over the top/crazy)
The atmosphere in here isnt too bad and most people just want a good night out.
you can get home from here pretty easy as there is a range of night buses just out side and plenty of cabs both black cabs and mini cabs ,with mini cab firm straight across the road.
The inside of this building is tastefully done and a good night out can be had by all.
One of the better london clubs
Koko is a former theater reconverted in a disco. It is located in Camden High street very near to the Mornington Crescent station. It has several floors with bars and some sofas. In the ground floor their is a massive disco ball and the scenario. I have only been there to see concerts and I have to say that it is a fantastic venue for this purpose.
On the other hand the drinks are quite expensive but it is the usual things in night venues.
The price in a weekend is not very expensive and I think is free if you enter before nine pm.
I love Koko. I love the fact it's an old theatre. I love the brilliant nights ranging from nights where the Horrors open and then the mood turns cheesey later, to hard house DJ nights with Lisa pinup. I had my birthday party there one year and 40 of us took over the upper bar area.
I also love the fact you can meet men that look like women, people who are totally on it and hard rockers. Everyone goes to KOKO.
wo.
i got lost. i got hypnotised by a giant inflatable ball. i refused to purchase more than 1 bottle of beer for £4 (ok as i was already very tipsy). i boogied to some old school tunes and some decent new ones. i had a drunken snog. i was able to walk home (although i didn't).
all in all a good saturday night out.
