Reviews for 93 Feet East
I was first there for their monthly residency event "Rock 'n' Roll Cinema". It's a great way to spend Sunday afternoon after going to the Columbia Flower Market.
"Rock n Roll Cinema" happens the first Sunday of every month, it begins the afternoon with short films, served with popcorn by rollergirls. Java cakes and tea in the lounge, or you can have your pint as well.
After the films, there are usually bands playing, so it's a fiver from 2pm-midnight.
I was at this venue for another event, it was £10 admission just because Carlos for Dirty Pretty Things were suppose to DJ. It was packed and not very well air conditioned even though this was back in March. The music was a little too loud as well.
This place isn't pretty and the wine is pretty nasty but I love this place. It's great for lazy sunny weekends in the courtyard and for less lazy nights. A big plus is also the friendly crowd as it lacks the snob factor that's found in a lot of shoreditch hangouts.
But the best thing about this place which wins it a firm place in my heart is the arts and crafts Sunday that they some times have (i've been twice by sheer fluke).
Basically there is a big table jammed packed with FREE (how often can you say that in London!) arts supplies so you can paint, cut, sew or play with pipe cleaners til the cows come home (or until your drunk friends start to paint on you). It's like being at primary school again but with booze. Excellant stuff.
I kinda get the feeling that the people working here aren't really too bothered. I find it a bit skanky and lacking in soul. The bars across the road and down the alley opposite are much more fun. The time I was molested by the 45 yr old woman didn't help either (no offence to 45 yr old women in general!)
a funky place to dance after a curry... I like the eclectic mix of lesbians out on dates...
93 Feet East has all the factors for a successful club in Brick Lane - a good space including two spacious rooms, a variety of leading and/or cutting edge DJs and acts, a diverse following including fashionista, musicians, artists and the like and finally a courtyard which is the perfect setting for great parties during the summer months.
Don't forget to sample some Caribbean Jerk chicken available from the BBQ in the courtyard when available.
93 Feet East is a very unassuming place, definitely more studenty than many other places in London. It attracts good, but not top-name, DJs, and has 2 different dance rooms (dancy and chill-out). The drinks are, for London, very reasonably priced and the ambience is laid-back. In the summer, they have BBQs in the backyard in the afternoons.
