Umbaba is a nightclub, restaurant and bar situated in the heart of Soho on Ganton Street, a pedestrian thoroughfare between the world-famous Carnaby Street and Kingly Court.
The interior has been inspired by a pastiche of African Culture through the ages; from the Butabu style earth architecture of Western Africa and the archaeological sites of Zimbabwe through to colonial safari and shanty town chic.

Fantastic
I was walking past this place, and James the guy on the door who I knew previously from Funky Budhha, asked if id like to go in and take a look.
I went downstairs, and didnt come back up again, the place was rocking, a great mix of people, cultures, and not one person giving attitude, or problems.
The drinks were expectedly normal Westend club prices, 9.00 or so for a double JD and coke, but the vibe was good, service fast, and generally a nice venue to go out in.

Racism - allowed by club management
This club is run by a management that allowes racism! My husband was kicked out of the VIP because the promoter of Dec. 27, 2007 did not want any black in VIP!!!
As the bouncers asked him to leave we asked why? They
told us:
the promoter does not want any black man there.
We could not beleive it! As we did not accept that reason we were escorted out with force even though we did not fight back at all! My husbands shirt got ripped, my girlfriends arm twisted and insured for no reason!
Anyway, RACISM should not be allowed nor accepted by anyone! I say: stay away from there if you want to leave in one peace!

Umba-what?
Umbaba is touted as one of the most exclusive clubs in London at the moment. One of these places where you need to be on the guestlist to gain entry... either that or spend 500 on a table. Now, if I really wanted to spend that much on a table, I would expect to be able to leave with it. Drinks are superbly overpriced - 50 for a cocktail jug. Now don't get me wrong, the cocktail was delicious... but seriously! After spending 15 to get in? The crowd was a strange mix of the London's elite and the UK's finest chavs. Were they beautiful? Yep, some of them were... although it was hard to see past the bling. To be fair to Umbaba's the music was top notch. Dirty house, hip-hop and a smattering of r'n'b. Possibly the only redeeming feature. Would I go again? Only if I was invited in for free and if I could leave with some of the furniture ;)
