    Expensive coffee but great varieties!

Starbucks’ coffee is really tasty, and the number of ways you can personalise it is almost infinite. You can ask for skinny (skimmed milk) coffee, decaf, coffee made with soy milk… the list goes on.

Starbucks are famous for opening coffee shops in new venues (indeed, the opening of a Starbucks is a positive social indicator that things are on the up!) Starbucks have (allegedly) fantastic opening offers, free coffee for their new customers, and all sorts of ways of getting their local clientele hooked. I do have reservations about such a big multinational!

Starbucks are great at introducing interesting speciality drinks for various times of year. In particular, their gingerbread latte is eagerly awaited by aficionados each Christmas, and well worth a try!

Last Friday evening whilst waiting for Cowie to pick me up from Hammersmith Flyover so we could zoom out of London I was kicking my heels because Cowie had got stuck in the massive traffic jam on Fulham Palace Road.

So I nipped into Books Etc. for a browse and landed up spending 35 quid on food books! Specifically, Hardens 2008 guide sponsored by Remy Martin, Charles Campion's guide to restaurants in London and Cooking with Booze which seemed quite fun.

With my small stash of books I headed into Starbucks to grab a quick coffee and sit in the warm whilst working out which restaurants to go to. I sat down with my latte and opened up Hardens only to be tapped on the shoulder and very politely asked to leave because they were closing in 5 minutes time.

I was pretty annoyed at this point and carried on reading. The only reason I had gone into Starbucks was so I could sit down out of the cold. And I had paid there inflated prices for a very average coffee.

If Starbucks is all about being a nice cosy place where you can chill out and not be hassled why kick people out. I could have understood had they mentioned this to me when I ordered my coffee or if the front door had been closed. But to allow me to buy a coffee and sit down and then ask me to leave is not on.

    Customer service? Not interested.
