Tamra is the new cafe/Bistro that has replaced the long running Boiled Egg and Soldiers at 63 Northcote Road.

I have talked to the new proprietor Melda. Her passion is for home cooked cakes, cookies and fancies. She is also mad on high quality coffee.
Having said that she has not reinvented the wheel. The breakfast menu is more extensive. From a range of healthy options to the more fulfilling (read hugh fry up). There is even a Champagne option for the weekends. (toast is included with breakfasts, an old bug bear of mine from the overpriced Boiled Egg days.)

She has now appointed a head chef too. This means that there is a more extensive range of hot lunches, burgers and sandwiches. In the evening there is a full restaurant menu and also so a fully licensed bar.

She has departed from the usual Clapham stalwart of Union Coffee and been granted a license by The Square Mile Coffee Company. They win lots of national barista awards, but are very picky about quality control so it should be a cut above the average latte.

Tamra opened a few weeks ago now. I remember the old place closing (The Boiled Egg and Soldiers) and wondered what would become of the place.

First impressions are that the Tamra's is a good addition to the road and the food is great.

There's a good range of food on the menu and the thing I like about the place is that the food (deserts and all) appear to be made on the premises unlike some of the outlets nearby which seem merely to heat things up...

The boiled egg was known for it's breakfasts and Tamra does a great selection but I also tried the place in the evening and I have to say the the Chicken Roulade was fantastic.

I am very impressed with the overall experience and say it's worth a visit. If like me you thought it was all about breakfast you need to try it in the evening.

It's even dog friendly!
