    What happened to this place

The first time I went here, was almost three years ago, just when I moved back to London from Brazil, I was really craving some nice Brazilian lunch time food, so I heard about this place and went along.

It was fantastic, the beans were cooked to perfection with generous helpings of different porks, and the rice was great, as were all the other things in the buffet.

Recently I went back a few times, and the place has gone right on down, from what I would rate a four, to a one.

They had beef, that was clearly stewing steak, that was simply browned, and battered, as it wasnt stewed, it was overly chewy, so like eating a shoe sole.

The chicken (Frango Pasarinha) was awful, the whole place has gone down hill, also now they dont weigh anymore, they simply charge a fixed price, and you eat as much as you want 6.99 + 1.00 for a drink, soft drinks only.

This place was once really great, and for some reason, has gone completely the other way..

Great way to pay for food, but the choice was not amazing. Was not sure of what some of the meat dishes were so name tags would have been good. The apple chips were a suprise as we were expecting potatoes but good experience. Area is not cool (bad part of oxford st). Not value for money considering that it is street food at the end of the day but i guess its london!

The drinks were interesting even though we had to ask what the fruits were.

Well its been nearly 2 months since I got back from Rio, and I just had an uncontrollable hankerin for some rice'n'beans. It had been a staple of my diet for so long and I was determined to find somewhere in this big metropolis that could deliver the goods for my needy tummy. I already knew about Brasil by Kilo, but had never been in. Now was the time. Its a simple idea that recreates the 'pay by kilo' buffet restaurants that you find everywhere in Brasil. It instantly felt like being back there as the waft of feijoada (a meaty bean stew that is the Brazilian equivalent of fish'n'chips) and the minimal effort dcor. Just plain and simple. Come in, help yourself, weigh your plate, pay, eat and emerge with a contented belly. The choice was a bit rubbish, I've got to say and couldn't compare to what I was used to in Brasil. However, I found what I wanted - rice, beans and a bit of brocolli (hmm, how do you spell that?). It all came in at just under 7 which is reasonable but not amazing value. Certainly filled me up, but I could have done with another hour or two to digest it all before I found myself upside down during a capoeira class. Highlight was the girl who served me, who was very cute and made me instantly want to get back to the beaches of Rio!
