Reviews for Fernandez & Wells
An espresso with zing!
Just in case you missed it, Fernandez & Wells has a second cafe just around the corner on Lex St (literally 50 feet away) with a similar selection of quiches, sandwiches etc but with a brilliant wine list as well. Stays open a bit later and by 8pm it turns into a wine-lovers hangout with a great vibe, although sometimes a little cramped - but i guess that's part of the fun for some. Check it out
Fernandez & Wells is the perfect place for restoring your sanity if you've had the misfortune of going to Oxford St, ever. It is small so finding a seat can be a matter of luck and/or patience but you will be well rewarded. I have eaten in this branch and the one around the corner on Lexington St and would pick Beak St as my preferred spot to sit. The sandwiches are made with great ingredients on delicious and varied types of bread - roast beef with horseradish on foccacia came warmed with a thickly pink and tender slice of beef inside doughy foccacia sprinkled with rosemary and sea salt. The espresso is perfect with a nata for pudding and if you have grabbed a seat in the window it is hard to tear yourself away from people watching in this oasis.
Wonderful place. Interior is pure shabby chic. Delicious looking sandwiches, gorgeous cakes and once again we’re spoilt for choice in London on where to venture for that ace cup of coffee.
If you like and enjoy going to those little spots in London where you don’t feel like your in London I recommend Fernandez & Wells, you won’t be able to resist the wafting scent.
They serve very good coffee, delicious pastries and freshly hand-made sandwiches. Don’t mistake it for one of those pretentious coffee shops, it’s warm, friendly and inviting.
When passing by I’ll pop in for a custard tart and espresso and sit by the window and watch the world go by.
What a fantastic find! Lovely and cozy, and fab selection.
I've walked past Fernandez & Wells a few times, but always opted to go for the generic Starbucks near the station. Boy was i missing a treat!
If you want proper coffee, patries to die for and food that is out of this world, go to Fernandez & Wells. I sat in the window for quite a while watching the world go by. The taste of the coffee seemed so much better here, and the tart i had was, well, i can't describe how amazing it was!
If you are in the area, you absolutely must try them, i'm so glad i did!
People 'in the know' kept telling me that Fernandez & Wells made good coffee. So we went there. And they certainly do!
We didn't visit their main shop on Lexington Street, but the smaller coffee bar on Beak Street. It was morning tea time one sunny Sunday and coffee was in the agenda. Ordering a couple of Flat Whites and one of my favourite treats - a Portuguese custard tart (Pasteis de Nata), we took a seat by the window.
Our coffee arrived and it looked really good. A nice dark crema and a pretty pattern in the milk. It tasted even better than it looked. And the custard tart was nice and fresh and custardy. Staff were friendly too. Top marks.
