Cafe Garcia

Reviews for Cafe Garcia

What is it with the Spanish Chocolate a la Taza; I mean I’m not even a chocoholic, but this drink is dangerously addictive. It’s so deliciously rich one might even treat it as a pudding course.

Café Garcia is great for solo diners and time killing. It’s also perfect for my countless re-reads of Homer’s Iliad (30 years on and yet to complete) or perusing over the Sunday Sport with the said drinking chocolate and a slice of Pastel de marron glaces (Sponge and egg cake topped with a layer of sweet marron glaces cream). However the Tarta de Santiago is not quite up there with Barrafina’s. The microwaved savouries of Paella, Tortilla española or Croquetas are consistently flavourful and moreish.

A small tip I suggest is to proceed next door and stock up on your groceries of tinned fish, jamón, tapas and wine before you visit the café. As you’ll be too stuffed to contemplate any shopping for food thereafter.

Barrafina for the masses.

Sounds great and actually like the proper hot chocolate they serve in Spain. Now the crucial question... do they also serve churos to go along the hot chocolate?

Churros, sure do. I think this place is pretty much authentic, the majority of the patrons speak Spanish and the gorgeous Spanish girls who work there speak very, very little English.

Ah, Garcia's, I love the shop but on my last visit to the cafe found the service rude and the food good. I used to go there alot.

Walid, last time I was there the churro's weren't freshly made, and a Spanish friend of mine was not happy :) bellaphon, has this changed?

Can't comment on the churro, but the tarts are great. The lack of English spoken probably accounted for the perceived rudeness.
