Reviews for Hobgoblin

The Hobgoblin is a Rock pub, with a capital RAWR! If you go here expecting to find anything else then you will be sorely disappointed!

It is a very friendly and welcoming pub though I'll admit that the crowd at the door can seem a bit intimidating from a distance.

Anyhoo, I walked in late on a busy Friday night (I wouldn't have looked out of place at a regatta) and enjoyed a very pleasant few hours there drinking, socialising and generally enjoying the atmosphere!

The pub itself is quite dark and a little sinister, after a fashion. They have capitalised on the association with the Hobgoblin brewery and the walls are plastered with posters and pictures and cutting of the great and good, the lurid and the thoroughly, thoroughly bad.

There is a live DJ most nights (please feel free to add more detail!) belting out some heavy, heavy tunes. The guy on the decks on Friday was tremendous value for money. Not least he was, quite literally, On the decks!

There was a smattering of very serious people being very serious, but otherwise the atmosphere was busy, friendly and fun! I have been to many more "mainstream" pubs (in fact I went to most of them that Friday night....) and felt far less welcome and more out of place (seriously chaps, I was in chinos and a linen jacket).

There seemed to be quite a community atmosphere there. Casting my mind back to my days of frequenting the local rock club, I'd guess that the clientèle tend to return on a regular, if not nightly, basis so it's hardly to be wondered at. There was certainly more of a collaborate buzz than in most of a sleek (and sleazy) trendy bars which pervade Camden.

I'm sure that there was a Hobgoblin ale on tap, though I didn't get to taste it as my companion was resolutely purchasing pints of Strongbow, at least he was until the Dutch Jagermeister girls came along. There was also a decent selection of bottled beers behind the bar.

So much did we enjoy our time there we returned for round two on the Saturday night and I wholly intend to be back again! And again. And... you get the idea.
