Reviews for Janet's Bar
I dare say,Janet is probably the most educated bar owner in London. For someone to call her an air hostess is probably no one who ever spoke to her.
Janet has a Doctorate of Law; her other bar staff include a Masters in Linguistics, a Physicist and a Master of the Kennels. Not to mention the 3 Polish girls who have been at Janet's for 9 years, 2 years and 18 months.
Janet's cover charge is £3 and only for those folks who do not order anything-otherwise,Nothing,Nada,Niente,Rien!
We love going to Janet's-my friends and I use it as our regular meeting-up place.
You can tell quite a lot about a bar by the frequency that it changes its staff and with the rude owner (American ex-air hostess, there's a surprise) its not surprising that they don't stay long.
This is probably becuase of the confrontational attitude take towards the customers. They insist on a cover to pay for the 'music'. Personally if I want to listen to music I go to a concert and get to listen to what I want to, well that if I'm going to pay for it.
Drinks are... well a rip-off. There was no price list but the bill was more expensive than anything else I've seen in London before. Served in plastic glasses... classy.
Buying a drink or paying the cover charge is compulsory - failure to do so will result in verbal abuse and eviction. Be warned, its not a friendly place.
When some friends and I walked late one night the atmosphere was so friendly and buzzing with energy. The live musician was excellent- and he managed to play every song request he was given which was really impressive!
To drink, we had some really yummy Pressecco cocktails, followed by a few martinis which were cooly decorated with either fresh fruit or olives. This is place is good for either a chill out drink or if you want to have a fun night out.
The prices were very reasonable for South Kensington. We are definitely going back soon!
Darlings- Janet's Bar is the place to go-simply everyone knows that! VERY COOL Bar and... FUN,FUN,FUN..
Do you want to feel good and have a great night..then Janet's Bar,natch! (And there are lots of freebies if you behave!)
PS-you get what you pay for-and quite frankly, Janet's Bar is worth it. Otherwise, go to the University Pub where you will be going nowhere fast!
I went here after a long and hard day in the city to be greeted by the friendly staff and lively atmosphere. I was particularly impressed by the live musician playing classic rock, and also by free hot dog that I got with my cocktail.
This is a great bar-you get what you pay for-says a lot that it s packed all the time even during a downturn in the economy-this bar cheers everyone up-it is so personal and you feel special here-not for those who expect student prices-this is a cool bar with unbelievable music-all the managers of nightclubs and bars hang at Janet's because they like what she does-Coco
I have had several nights out in Janet's Bar and i have never been disappointed with the service or the quality of live music. it is a place where you can easily meet new and exciting people because the bar hosts a whole world of different characters including the great lady herself: janet
Cool music, lively atmosphere, the prices are upmarket but it's worth it since you get a good night out of it. i had my best friend's 21st birthday party there and now it has become a tradition for our group to have theirs there too!
Janet's cocktails have a personal touch and we were really pleased to get some complimentary bites and live music!
One evening we were meeting friends for a drink before dinner in South Kensington, in August 2007. One of the friends had heard of a bar right near the tube station called Janet's Bar, so this sounded like an easy option.
Unfortunately it turned out to be a bad option...
Janet's Bar is a small, colourful, but at the same time a little dingy, bar that is located under the Brompton Hotel. The walls are covered with photographs of happy regulars drinking cocktails and partying all night.
When we arrived at around 6pm one Thursday evening we were the only ones sitting inside the bar area. There is a tiny balcony at the front with 2 small tables, which were full when we arrived, but were obviously the place to sit, as the music inside was not to our taste and way too loud for that time of evening.
We ordered some cocktails, which took forever to arrive...even though there was no one else to serve...
Luckily after about 30 minutes the people who had been sitting outside left, so we were able to move out away from the music and get some fresh air.
Perhaps this place is fabulous when you arrive late...already tipsy...
