Reviews for Scarsdale

If you are ever in Kensington High Street, want lunch but want to sample some tucked away, back street goodness go to the Scarsdale.

Sat on the picturesque Edwardes Square there is a nice small front facing garden and the pub feels like a pub inside. Nicely kept, original features - all good stuff.

Largely Fullers on tap, and a decent menu.

We were served quickly, the food was really nice (Scampi and Wedges) and generally all good.

The Scarsdale is what a pub should be. It is friendly, albeit in an extremely affluent area - reflected in the patrons. It serves good seasonal drinks - the usuals, Pimm's in the summer, mulled wine in the winter. It has a roaring open fire for the winter, and a terrace outside for the summer, facing a lovely garden square. Food is very decent - I would say not "gastro" but it does what it sets out to do, and is appropriately priced. And it is dog-friendly - a perfect stop-over after a walk in Holland Park: think labradors and beagles, not old men with dogs on bits of string. It has a TV for rugby etc. but it is unobtrusive for those less interested. It is my favourite pub in London - nothing is amazing but everything is just right.

This agreeable hostelry gets 4 stars purely for atmosphere and a decent drinks menu. To get the negatives out of the way, the food was a pig with lipstick. Nicely presented, hugely average taste deficient lazy cooking for the masses. How the 'clucking bell' can you still get away with charging £11 for fish n chips and serve tartar from a catering pack and have the affrontry to tell me that it's freshly made - from what glue, such was the consistency??? The restaurant might be a different matter but the only plus was that the nosh was generally cheap(ish) - given the area. But that said, given the area and disposable incomes why not serve superb food and charge a bit more...

What redeemed all of this was a genuinely convivial atmosphere, well served beers and mixers and splendidly comfortable surroundings. The crowd spilled out onto the street such was its popularity - a mixture of pretty & handsome local professionals, ruddy faced downbeat public school types and affable tourists, all rubbing along nicely.

An excellent local that is maybe complacent about the food given that it's guaranteed to be full each night with regulars who don't go to eat.

I love this place. A little gem in the heart of Kensington. Nothing like hanging out here to waste a Sunday.

Oh - and they do great food too!

I love this place, very private but a pub that has a slight 'country' feel to it. Great food and a lovely patio at the front for drinking away a sunny Sunday afternoon.

I bumped into this nice pub on my way to the Odeon Cinema in High Street Kensington. I was looking for a parking space in the back streets, it was dark, saw the lights of something which looked nice: the Scarsdale Tavern.

The Scarsdale is a very nice and cozy pub...I really have a thing for their lights. The atmosphere is just very nice. They serve food in the pub, but also have a restuarant at the back. And some tables outside, so it's perfet any time of the year.

I never tried the restaurant, but the pub menu is actually quite good.
