Reviews for The Prince Alfred

Its difficult to write a proper review about this place because it can be so hit and miss...its my local so ive been a lot but its never consistent. I would never order the pork belly here though it looked horrendous. stick with duck or chicken and you cant go too far wrong.

very pretty pub

Looking for a drink close to Warwick Avenue tube, we stumbled upon the Prince Alfred and fell in love. This Grade II listed pub has a stunning interior, with five snugs breaking up the room with their carved wooden partitions and curious little doors. Loved the carved ceiling and friendly staff too.

There is a large dining area to the rear (the Formosa Dining Room) which I am sure is popular with the locals, though on this occasion we were eating elsewhere so didn't pay it much attention.

We scored a great table in one of the front snugs and enjoyed a cold one while catching up on the news of the day. I really wish the Prince Alfred was a little closer to home, but next time I am in this neck of the woods a return visit will be top of the to-do list.

The Prince Alfred is on a 'quirky' little corner just behind Warwick Avenue tube station, literally the public bar area is the corner of Formosa Street.

The eccentricity is carried further into the bar where you can traverse between seating areas by 'ducking' through strategically placed holes in the wood paneling dividers.

The net effect is quite amusing with people 'spilling' from room to room.

The ceilings are especially high and as the paneling finishes at a 'normal' hight the feel is open and airy as opposed to claustrophobic.

The dining area is an extension at the back and provides for a large number of diners.

The pleasure is further added to by the kind and attentive staff and the friendly, sociable customers.

For those looking for an extended night out there is also The Colonnade e bar which is within hopping distance across the way.
