I work around the corner from Match and every time I pop in it never disappoints. The food's good and the staff are really nice. The drinks are really good too- I thought I knew what a mojito was meant to taste like until I had one here.

I went to Match last night and it was seriously terrible.
Thankfully we only went in for a quick drink after dinner and it wasn't somewhere we planned to go to.
We ordered our drinks (neither of which were especially complicated), the guy who took our order then proceded to wander around for a bit, went in and out of the hatch next to the bar a few times, mumbled something at us, wandered around a bit more. Ten minutes after placing our order we recieved our drinks.
I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but its honestly not. I timed it.
We were the only people in the bar so I really could not understand what took the bartender so long.
We were offered no explanation or even an appology.
It may sound like I'm being a little unreasonable but the service in Match is totally unacceptable.
I have worked as a cocktail bartender for 6 years and am currently managing a bar, and honestly I can't imagine making someone wait that long for a drink even if the place was completely packed.
The drinks weren't even that nice.
They seriously need to sort it out.

I know which bartender was working that evening and I can tell you that he did not work for Match very long for that exact reason! Knowing how amazing and attentive the bartenders we have now are I was shocked to see this review. Don't worry, we have definitely sorted it out.

The original and as far as I'm concerned still the best of the Match Bar mini-chain. When Match first opened, back in the late 90s, the £5.50 martinis were a revolution in reasonably-priced, lovingly-crafted drinks. Nowadays you can get pretty good cocktails in far more places and Match has lost its edge slightly, but it remains a cool, intimate place to enjoy an expertly made gin martini or the stunning Match Spring Punch. The bar menu nachos aren't bad either.
