Reviews for Lab Bar
As others have said, the cocktails here are tops. I highly recommend the PORNSTAR... it's a fabulous passion fruity martini with a side shot of champagne.
The place is quite buzzy and trendy as well - so it's a nice stop-off in the night. However, as it can be very very crowded, and there is little space for standing or sitting in the venue, and it's very loud, I think the Lab Bar is good for 1-2 drinks early in the evening before you head off to whatever place you'd like to spend the rest of your night in.
Go for the drinks, see and be seen, then get outta there and go somewhere where you can actually chat or at least move!!
It has to be said that Lab still is one of the best cocktail bars around.
As most people know they have for years been at the front of the London bar scene with regards to kick ass drinks.
Most good cocktail bars are the same standard as them and it can be argued that many have overtaken them but Lab was one of the first.
The staff are awesome once you get to know them although the first couple of visits i did feel like i had gatecrashed a party and nobody wanted me there.
The only bad point for me is the music DJ in the corner playing the same as most bars pretty boring stuff
Popped in here on Thursday night with a friend from out of town on the basis of the previous reviews here and was very underwhelmed. The place is in need of a radical refurbishment. It looks old, tatty and dirty. I was asked to take my tie off, which annoyed me as it was part of my outfit. It's not like I was wearing a business suit. This gave me the impression that I was rather over-dressed for the place, which certainly appeared to be the case. It's not a place that anyone should ever bother dressing up for.
The cocktail menu is large and in the dim light almost unreadable. I found a pomegranate martini which seemed acceptable but proved rather dull with very little depth after the first sip. A couple of ladies at the bar ordered a shot each only to find it was some sort of flaming thing. Both of them looked quite disgusted before, during and after drinking it.
The music was overly loud given the small number of people in the bar, making conversation difficult.
If this bar was ever hip and fashionable it certainly isn't now. It's got no style, no elan, no... well, no anything much.
All in all, Lab is a bit of a mess.
My boyfriend and i stumbled upon this little diamond by accident and now its are regular favorite if we want a cocktail. It is the best place to find the most yummy cocktails in london. All made from fresh fruit! Great to out with the girls!! my fav is the three berry daiquiri. the cocktail list is very extensive there is something for everyone. they even do non alcoholic cocktails! the bar tenders are trained to the max and do all the fancy moves and shakes. i think you can even book lessons with them on cocktail making. its def worth a visit!
I love LAB- if you get there early on a weekday you may have the opportunity to secure yourself a table. [they do table service which, is often quicker than queing at the bar] But standing at the busy bar is also fine as the mixologists are experienced enough to know who came in first, who to serve and they can actually do 3 orders at once.
The bloody marys are the best ever, always served with celery and chilli flakes on the lip of the glass!!!! GREAT HANGOVER CURE
The cocktail list is extensive but the bar tenders always ask you what you like and can customise your order for your personal tastes.
Last time I went i had a lychee martini and a vodka based garden cocktail with fresh mint and lemon grass- delicious!
I love the fact its always busy and you always want to stay for more than one drink.
Great for treats in the week after work or to stimulate you before you go out at the weekend. its close to Mixmaster C's club, The End.
Staff are friendly and service is efficient and great to watch.
I do often get asked for iD there and have my bag searched too which I don't mind but if you look young like me you might want to go prepared.
I've been going there for years and am yet to be let down. Sit at the bar, and describe the things you like to the bar crew and they will make you up a bespoke taste sensation. I knew that they were beyond great when I got a alco-free delight when I was on the wagon - anyone that can make pop taste that good has to be a genius
Quite simply the best cocktails I've ever had. Usual London cocktail prices (£7), but they really are exceptional and for once worth it! Nice atmosphere, usually busy and occasionally rammed, but often plenty of space to move around and I usually find somewhere to sit or prop myself. A must-do when out in Soho.
