The Admiral Codrington reopened in June 1999 after a complete refurbishment, designed by Nina Campbell, and now has a separate bar and restaurant. The bar is comfortable and the restaurant serves good food in a separate, well designed area, complete with a removable roof for the summer. The inexpensive, simple English food is sure to be a success, especially in the midst of such expensive competition. Outside seating is provided on the terrace with heaters in the winter.

Reviews for The Admiral Codrington

The food in the restaurant out the back of the pub is fantastic. Pub is also nice but gets packed!
3 of us had steaks - rib eye or fillet - and they were all cooked as ordered. It is a little on the pricey side even for a gastropub, but worth it - great place for any vague celebration that you might be having... just be sure to book!

This is a great place to go for a nice plate of fish and chips. The restaurant is very light and airy and a pleasant place to eat. The fish and chips is excellent. Also very good is the steak burger with parfait of foie gras. I have not had the fish cakes have also had good reports of these. The price is slightly above average pub food but not too bad for this area and this type of restaurant and is overall OK value. There is a nice patio area outside the front to eat which is very nice when the sun is out.

The Admiral Edward Codrington was the captain of HMS Orion at the Battle of Trafalgar which as most of you would know was an important battle for the English.

Carrying such a name would make you wonder if this gastro pub would store some kind of war or naval memorial but no. What they do have though is fish... very nice fish, actually Cod from the picture above. It's your traditional fish and ships but the Cod was very fresh, meaty, and the batter golden and crisp.

What this pub is known for its retractable glass roof which must be quite an experience when you come here during the summer.

Overall I had a good experience at The Admiral Codrington, the staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is pleasant.
