We needed to stop off somewhere to relax and eat after driving down from Newark via Blenheim Palace before driving onto the Royal Albert Hall to see the King and I,
We picked The Black Lion because basically it had a car park, was 500m out of the congestion zone and had a good write up, we emailed and promptly got a reply with copies of their menu and wine list.
On arriving we found a lovely little pub near the river adorned with flowers in baskets & planters, food excellent and good portions, maybe a little pricey considering the décor was a little tired and dated but we found the staff very attentive and friendly.
We would recommend this pub for a pleasant meal and riverside walk and would have no doubts in returning

A great pub. Child and baby friendly, and with 4 real ales on, dad friendly too.

I'm getting increasingly fond of the Black Lion. It's a large, sprawling Pub just set back from the river so it doesn't get as crowded as the nearby Old Ship. They seem to have a lot going on with film nights, quizes and live music - not all at the same time.

It's a great place to have a break on the two or three bridges walk.

The menu looks good and from what I have seen, lives up to the billing although I haven't eaten here yet - maybe next Sunday!
