A hidden gem in the heart of tourist town
The Blue Posts on Rupert Street is the perfect pub for a quiet drink or three, unbelievably located at the side of the Trocadero and only a couple of minutes' walk from Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square. The landlord and his team are always happy to see both new and old faces, and more than helpful if you're looking for suggestions, a menu or a glass of something special.
The pub itself comes closest to a traditional English country pub, with two smallish wood-floored bars complete with new tables and chairs. Food is cooked on-site, with a satisfying and budget-price range of standard pub dishes. For those with a taste for real ale, the Timothy Taylor offering is de rigeur.
The upstairs room hosts an excellent pub quiz on alternate Tuesday evenings, together with the occasional karaoke night, whilst downstairs has well-regarded Jazz sessions on Sunday afternoons. A small art exhibition on the first floor is worth a glance if you're passing, and is rotated regularly.
All in all, a fantastic find for those who prefer a friendly local pub to the often soulless and mortgage-squeezing bars that fill the West End!
