Reviews for Pitcher & Piano

For some reason this pub is usually chosen when I meet a couple of friends for beers and a chinese a couple of times a year.

I like the surroundings, it's convinient for Charing Cross & China Town and the interior is quite nicely decorated with loads of space, I don't know what sort of building it used to be but it looks like an old bank?

The downside is that the drinks are expensive, although there is a good range (particularly Hoegarden If I'm feeling rich) and the upstairs is always shut unless it's a Friday or Saturday.

The upstairs bar has a central gallery and you can sit round the outside and look down onto the ground floor. I don't understand why they don't let you sit there even if the upstairs bar is shut. You can always get served downstairs and take your drinks up?

Never eaten there and to be honest I probably wouldn't. The food is a bit pricey and looks much the same as Wetherspoons, which is a lot cheaper.

After being spoilt by the beautiful surroundings of the Nottingham Pitcher & Piano (its in an old church), I found this Pitcher & Piano to be far less to look at. It was a quiet evening, but the place was in reasonable use, no empty tables. I found the bar staff to be friendly.

Maybe because it was the day after boxing day, but I found it to be a very lacking service. The waiter had to be called on every occasion, showing that he was either new or just didn't care. The food was sub par - being at my kindest, and the dessert was so awful that I felt obliged to complain on behalf of my dinner guests. The manager wasn't particularly apologetic, another thing that irked, but at least took it off our bill.

Lesson learnt - yes to drinks, yes to starters, no to everything else!
