Really good food and great service, is ideal for a quick bite before the cinema.

Our favourite place to get a fairly inexpensive meal before a movie is Shanghai by the Odeon (formerly Filmworks) in Greenwich. This restaurant would probably do a whole lot better in a high street location, as the typical movie-going crowd seems to stick with the known quantities of Pizza Hut, McDonalds and Nandos which are on the same bit round the cinema. Better for us I say, it tends to be quiet during the week and we've never had to wait for a table even on the weekend. The food leans mostly to the Japanese side, with what I think is a decent selection of sushi (I'm not an expert!), and there are plenty of noodle or rice based dishes to try. They nearly always have had some cheesy 80s music playing when we've been there, but I enjoy that sort of thing! A meal for two plus starters and a few sodas usually runs us £26-30, which is quite reasonable. The bar looks impressive, but we've never tried anything from it. It's a quite spacious place with high ceilings and a second level of dining, and if it weren't so far from central London, it would be a fantastic venue for an event.
