Reviews for Cittie Of Yorke

Nice old building frequented by lawyers in the week. Had two pints of Sam Smiths (one lager and one bitter) which came to £4.02. Can't ask for any more really in the centre of London!

It seems to me that Sam Smiths pubs are rather like Marmite. You love them or hate them. Both my colleagues and I fall in the former category, not least because of the abundance of inexpensive ale. The wine is not the greatest, but has improved recently but drinking in the centre of London in a beautiful building, you can’t go wrong.

However, on a glorious day it does seem a waste it inside as it can seem a bit dreary upstairs, let alone downstairs in the cellar bar, which incidentally does a nice hot meal at lunch time with your choices of pies, lasagne, moussaka and the like, it is on the stodgy side especially with the side of chips but washing it down with a nice pint of ale is great!

This pub is an excellent find. They sell excellent value Sam Smith beer. Furthermore, they have some excellent seating. It's usually possible to get a seat, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Bargain all round.

This being a Sam Smith's pub, some people will love the beer and others will hate it.

The cellar bar has an unusual curved roof, which makes for rather "interesting" acoustics; possibly not the best place for a private conversation.

The historic Cittie of Yorke pub located on High Holborn may have started out as a coffee shop in the 15th century. It has retained its Tudor facade and has three interesting bars with the huge rear bar being the most interesting. It feels more like a church hall and has massive wine vats on the walls along with other features such as small cubicles retained from the past. It's worth a visit just for the architecture along with beer from the Sam Smith's range.
