Reviews for The Pineapple

It's only taken me a year but I have finally come round to the The Pineapple refurb, in a 'I've started ignoring my fancy new shoes ripping apart my comfortable old bunions' sort of a way. I loved this pub, loved it just exactly as it was, and then they went and slapped fancy swirly gold wallpaper all over it and started serving some fairly average Thai food. Still, the same old locals still prop up the same old bar (and thank god they kept the bar), the fires continue to roar away happily as people cram themselves onto the tables and so it remains a friendly happy little place to be on a Friday night (if you're not in the conservatory, that is, and if you avoid looking at the wallpaper), which at least goes to prove that it's people that make a place. And at least they put all the pineapples back up.

I LOVE THE PINEAPPLE!!

I LOVE THE WALK UP LEVERTON STREET PASSED THE MULTI COLOURED HOUSES, I LOVE THE TRANSITION FROM HAVING A DRINK ON THE BENCHES OUTSIDE AND WATCHING LOCAL KIDS RIDE ROUND ON BIKES LIKE A DAVID MCKEE PICTURE BOOK, TO THE WARM WELCOME OF THE FRONT BAR WHERE THE LOCALS SIT AND LAUGH.

PERHAPS SNUGGLING UP IN ONE OF THE CORNERS OF THE BACK BAR WHERE YOU CAN PLAY TRADITIONAL GAMES? OR BRINGING ALL YOUR MATES ON A FRIDAY FOR A THAI BEFORE YOU GO OUT TO TOWN. CIGGIE IN THE GARDEN?

THIS PLACE HAS A SECTION FOR EVERYONE.

I'VE HEARD THAT THEY DO CHEESE PARTIES TOO.

THEY DO PIMMS WITH THE OPTION OF GINGER BEER OR LEMONADE AND THE BAR STAFF ARE FAB TOO.

THE BEST THING ABOUT IT IS THERE ARE PINEAPPLES EVERYWHERE.

LOVE IT!!!

I like the pineapple, the atmosphere is great! the furnitutre is old and has real character, I like the bar staff here, but I have he agree the new Thai menu is no where near the old english menu... they made the best chicken and mushroom pie, the food and meat was always really fresh, now I am not that sure... reheated made earlier stuff.

The pub quiz is always really good fun and great for mates to come along to as the group can be as big as you want and easy for them to get back home! all in all a good local pub!

This place is great! It's been redecorated so got a great little quaint feel with the fabulous wallpaper. It has lots of seating outside, and lots inside too! The local puppy was sleeping in front of the fire when I last visited there (very cute) which made it quite homely.

I had a few glasses of Leffe Blonde served with some of the great Thai food they do, also available takeway. We had the satay sticks, spring rolls, and prawn toast, while our friend had the red lamb curry. The starters came to £10 while the curry with rice was £6.00 - all very tasty and made our beer go down a treat!

I've read a few reviews on this place that has complained about the bar staff, however I find the lovely ladies to be really friendly! Maybe I just have manners..
Great for a quiet pint, they play good music but not too loud! Not the kind of place that I've seen get rowdy - perfect for a catch up with your friends.

They've succumbed. They've succumbed to the Thai menu, which totally sucks if you wandered in after some of their amazing sausage and mash.
They've still got the bar staff's iPods on, loads of comfy seats, people reading books over a glass of wine and two fires going in the winter though, so it still gets 4 stars.

No, I don't mean that this is somehow a brand new approach to a pub. In fact, it's quite the contrary. I'm referring to The Pineapple's struggle to remain a pub. You see the building has been used as a pub since 1868 – imagine that for a moment: you're sitting there drinking you beer, just like a similar guy (did women go to pubs for a pint with their mates back then?) did 138 years ago. When it was sold to developers, the local community went up in arms, lobbied, campaigned and managed to get the building listed, keeping their local safe from being turned into another block of flats. Power to the people my brothers and sisters. It's impressive what communities can achieve when bound by a common passion.

So the place has a good background and I think that permeates the atmosphere. It's simple, relaxed and inviting. You can get Leffe on tap, which is always a bonus and the food is good – judging from the pics on the wall you may even spot John Snow. The best thing about it is that it's 10 minutes from where I live. Tip: it makes a great combination with Lalibella, a fantastic Ethiopian restaurant 5 minutes away from it – more of that on another review.
