They wanted to capture the excitement that we all used to experience when we got to run into the school yard at home time. That is why the clock is always set to "home time". In The Old School Yard just like in your memories the sun is always shining and the sky was always blue. They even commissioned an artist to paint a sun on to the wall and a sky onto the ceiling.
The staff have worked hard with their suppliers and friends to provide the best cocktails in SE1. For their efforts the bar recently came runner up for the Best Cocktail Menu UK. The menu is based on a comic book and splits the drinks into school subjects. Come learn about the Mojito from Cuba in the Geography section. The Moscow Mule from the 40's in the History section. The bartenders are also very talented. Known for their drink making talents and their "flair" two of their bartenders took part in the UK Bartenders Guild Flair Championships and the Roadhouse World Flair heats in 2008.

I went here on 23rd Dec and it was empty. This certainly isn't fair to judge it on how popular it is as it was the Monday before Xmas so fair enough.
WHat I can judge it on are the cocktails, and I only had 1. It was a so called 'happy hour', and a cocktail that tasted of cheap booze and acid, having looked at the website I think it was a Hemingway martini.
Leaving aside what is subjective personal taste for the cocktail, the big gripe is that the drink was served in the TINIEST cocktail glass I've ever seen. At a happy hour price of £4 something it wasn't great, but if I paid full price for that well, I wouldn't, I'd just walk out. It's definitely not a cocktail bar no matter what the reviewers say below. Interesting that all of them have only ever put one review on this site, and it's all effusive praise for this bar. Coincidence? I think not!
Having said all that, it might be a great laugh and you won't care if it's full on a Saturday night, but it is in a bit of an awkward spot to get to so if you don't like it then it'll be a hassle to go elsewhere.

Well, what can i say... Just that since the opening of the bar, i've been a BIG FAN and that I really love that place!!!
Everytime I go there it's always as if I feel like home and welcome... The guys are great and are very talented in making one of my most favorite drink.
The vibe there is always good, the music always makes you wanna get up your chair and boogie ;)
All the people I have taken to TOSY had a smashing time...
So what else to add... just get down there, spread the word and I guarantee you that you gonna have an awesome time!!!

if you're looking for the BEST cocktails in town, look no further! and i don't mean a popular favourite or two; EVERY drink on their artistically well-rounded menu is...well...to be quite honest...AN ORGY IN MY MOUTH!
these boys know how to do it! not only are they rated two of london's BEST bartenders, they love what they do and it shows! they serve QUALITY cocktails in style with a touch of flare if you so desire! fyi - best Bloody Mary on earth. hands down.
the atmosphere is the exact opposite of pretentious! bright, colourful and comfortable. massive wrap-around bar, back patio with BBQ, couches, big screen tv and let's not forget the video games; Ninja Turtles and Wii. it doesn't get any better! you are taken right back to your carefree childhood days where fun is a given and stress does not exist!
the music is banging. don't be surprised if you find yourself dancing all over the pub! they play it all and the owners do not hesitate to hop on the bar and shake their tail-feathers to everyone's amusement! if it's a theme party you're after, this is the place! these boys go all out for special occasions! 80s, halloween, live band...they do it all...in style!
the best part of the old school yard experience is getting to know the staff. kind, courteous and ridiculously talented. they're good for a laugh, always make you feel welcome (often with a shot of jager), and regardless of how busy they are, they always take the time to say hello! they take pride in their regulars, and as soon as you check them out, i guarantee you'll become one!
this place is TOPS! deffo worth the trip! i highly recommend rounding up your finest posse and sampling the entire menu in one go! TOPS!

I discovered The Old School Yard in July 2008 and from then its my favourite bar in London. You always feel welcome - great range of amazing cocktails at very reasonable prices - atmosphere that makes you feel home - dancing to great music - BBQs in the garden - and so much more ....

This place is fast becoming my new favirote watering hole.
What a great idea to bring all the fun bits of your school days back with a fun twist.
The decor is excellent, there is an open bar area for just talking or if you want to have a dance. The sofa area is set up if you just want to chill and when the weathers good the Garden is excellent for a bit of BBQ !
I love the drinks, served by two of the coolest bar tenders i have ever met, if you are particularly good they might share a shot of jagermeister with you, but the hats off, hands down god damn best drink they serve is The Porn Star Matrini, what a drink.
Good tunes and good people (on both sides of the bar) make this a really friendly and cool place to be, if you are in the area, drop in and tell em Joey sent ya !

SOunds like a could be reading off a poster for a West End show, and surprise surprise, this is the only review that JenPike has ever done on this site!!
Sounds like it's a good bar but I wish these blatant PR stories could be removed/monitored somehow.
