The S&D is our local, however we haven't been for ages since we feel it is over priced and the food is 2nd rate. We decided to give it another go following rumors that the kitchens had been revamped etc. Table for 7 please. It was Sunday so we ordered two meze starters to share followed by a few roasts and two burgers for the kids.

Where do I start?

1) Drinks, we ordered 3 bottles of water for the table, - we got 3 glasses of water & two cokes. Bottles were promised but never arrived so 2 of us didn't get a drink.
2) Two rare beef roasts were ordered on the waitresses recommendation, only to be told later that beef was off the menu. It wasn't just the beef either, it seemed that half the menu was off. Instead we ordered roast chicken. The roasts arrived on plates that were far too small, and swimming in gravy, so much so that the waitress poured some down her front.
3) Oh good, the meze starters arrived half way through our mains??? we sent them back.
4) We didn't bother with coffee or desert, we were pleased to get out.

All in all our thoughts on the Sun & Doves have not changed, the service was shoddy, the staff were disorganised and the food was only so so. We will not be going back any time soon. Sorry Mark, you need to pull your socks up, the Sun & Doves is no Gastro Pub.

If however, you are going for a few beers and a bowl of chips, then I couldn't think of a nicer place in Camberwell.

I may be a bit biased with this as the S&D is kind of my local, however many reviews from friends visiting from outside the area lay weight to my claim that this is definitely one of the best pubs around.
We recently attended the Halloween pub quiz, which was great fun. The food was very nice though in the past the service has been a bit hit and miss. We went for fairly basic fayre, nachos and some bowls of chips but they were very tasty!
The quiz was great fun and seems to happen weekly rather than monthly as indicated above. I haven't had the chance to attend the film nights as yet but certainly plan to in the future.
Also, San Miguel on tap, bonus!

The Sun and Doves is a rarity indeed - a gastropub at the Camberwell end of Coldharbour Lane. The food is excellent, and drinking there is a great way to wile away an evening.

They also have great free music nights, which are highly recommended.

They also do barbecues in the summer, which smell absolutely divine. Their menu is fabulous, I'd recommend the fishcakes and the nachos.

Worth checking out for their very quirky garden.

They host regular events - I believe that Tuesday is film night.

A lovely lovely place to go for a couple of beers.

Although i haven't visited Sun and Doves yet... I would like to recommend it as it uses renewable electricity to power it's business.

Here's a little bit of what they say about themselves..

"The Sun and Doves opened in 1995 and quickly became Camberwells favourite bar. We were the first place around to serve good quality modern food and drink in contemporary surroundings and one of the first bars in the country to hold art exhibitions regularly. We started as -restaurant bar and gallery-, became known by reviewers as a -gastro pub- and now stick with -food drink art- as our thing. Many others have followed. We serve a wide range of drinks, from fresh juices, Fair Trade coffees, teas and infusions to an exceptionally good wine list chosen by Mark Dodds, the founder. We serve premium spirits and do great cocktails as well as draught ale, keg and bottled beers. Imaginative bar snacks and light to full meals are available every day from midday to late evening."

Sun and Doves is fab - its the unofficial official Kings College Hospital watering hole - miss the chicken skewers from the menu though!
