The Lamb is a traditional Victorian pub frequented by locals. There are seating areas and a small yard outside for summer days. Catering for private parties of up to 30 seated guests is available upon request.

Reviews for The Lamb

A lovely Victorian pub, full of character, with 'snob screens' around the bar. The beer is well-kept (Youngs), and they had seasonal ales on draft which are well worth a try, such as Winter Warmer. Also, in my view a plus, there is no music.

The down sides are that it can get very busy (especially around Christmas) and I have never had a good food experience here ... so stick to the beer!

The seating area at the front of the pub sadly no longer exists, but there is still a very small courtyard at the back.

Worth a visit for any real ale fan, but also anyone who enjoys atmospheric pubs, as this is unique and full of character.

Had probably the worst pub experience for a long while here.

They decided about 15 minutes after we placed our order that the kitchen was backed up. Thus, instead of getting our lunch in a timely manner we got one meal quickly and then waited about 30 minutes for the rest.

The fish was bland, tasted like frozen and was sent back. The burgers were burnt, and nuclear hot in the middle.

Bad, just bad.

...says manager Suzanne. "And I'm not sure I have any interesting stories about the place."

Reviews of the Lamb always follow the same formula. Cosy old boozer...snob screens...Victoriana. I was desperate to find something new to say. And lacking facts, I'll have to make some up.

It has London's second smallest beer garden (beaten only by The Enterprise, just down the road). It has a friendly barman who looks like that young hobbit fellow off of BBC weather (Matt Taylor?). It serves a pint of 'Special' that smells of radishes. And a tributary of the River Fleet flows very close to its basement (though they're probably not aware of it). Plus, it attracts the most amiable of clientele, including the founders of this site.

None, some or all of the above are true.

The upstairs room is available for hire (normally £30). It's less ornate than the downstairs bar, but is the perfect size for a gathering of 40 or so people.

Food is good, but you really should go next door to Ciao Bella for a top meal.

You're likely to encounter medics, postdocs, adventurous lawyers, science publishers and a smattering of tourists. I seem to meet random Canadians every time I set foot in the place. Canadians are always nice. Apart from Donald Sutherland. He is clearly evil, trying to kill that nice James Bond chap in You Only Live Twice. Oh, hang on, that was Donald Pleasance wasn't it? I take it back. Donald Sutherland is a nice Canadian. Keifer is probably fairly nice, but often gets a bit aggresive in '24'. I think the jury's still out there.

Quaint and cosy local pub, always rammed with doctors and nurses whenever I have been.

Was always a bit smoky too but that shouldn't be a problem now. Lovely traditional decoration and the staff are usually pretty good fun. Have been to a party in the function room upstairs. Its not massive but a nice little room for a party - especially as it has its own bar.

Worth a visit if you're in the area.

wonderful little pub tucked away behind Russell Square. Great choice of beers and good food. Staff and locals are all really friendly.

A lovely restored Victorian pub in a lovely part of town. The interior is great and the "snob screens" (never worked out their actual purpose or usefulness) are a nice additional curioisity.

Usually quite packed but it is still worth going - decent atmosphere and a good range of beers (mostly Young's). Never had the food though by all accounts that is quite good too.

What are "snob screens"?

They're like little windows mounted between the punter and barman, which can be swivelled round 90 degrees. I suppose the intent is to stop the staff hear your conversation but they look more hassle then they're worth, you'd have to keep opening and closing every time you order a drink.

Go to the pub and you'll get a better idea of what I mean!
