Love the lounge
I just can't drink from Martini glasses. Nothing to do on how it detracts from my carefully cultivated masculine image, build over years of smoking, drinking and living in the rough mountains peaks of Greece. If Martini glasses are good enough for Sheeaan I'm so Scottish' Connery then who am I to talk? No, the reason is purely mechanical. I simply can't drink from those things. A rotation of 2 degrees at the base can translate in a tsunami at the surface of the glass that usually spills all over my face, rapidly proceeding all the way down to my shirt.
So when I found a the Thai Breaker on the menu, amazing as it sounded I wasn't going to have it as it came in that blasted Martini glass. So I asked the waiter if I could have it on a short glass. On the rocks sir?' Yes, please'.
Good service I thought, but nothing extra special. All the did was just use another glass and add ice. What was special though was the following six Thai Breakers that I had came again in the same format, by two different waiters that were tending to our table, without me having to repeat the request once. Could not really believe that.
This typifies the service at Loungelover. The staff takes extremely good care of everyone. Yes, you'll probably end up spending more money than usual (much more in my case for last Friday), but not because the prizes are necessarily too high. Go to any shitty central London bar and you will pay about 7 for a cocktail. I think the fact you may spend quite a bit is because the atmosphere is so relaxed, the quality of the drink and food so good and the service at such a standard that you will not want to leave. We stayed for about four hours engrossed in good conversation (which you can have as the music is lively but at a level that you can talk), enjoying some excellent food and downing far too many of those cocktails. At about 12 the very classy, French, Spanish, Greek and English flock of hens that were at the next table insisted that we followed them to their next destination so reluctantly we left. That's another review to follow.
The food is currently a Japanese inspired selection of salmon tartare, marinated pork and beef meetballs, roasted aubergine and a rather narrow sushi choice. Not the place to go for big meal out, more of a tasty side order. Would really like to try the proper at the Trois Garcons that's been put together by the same team.
So don't wait and try Loungelover. See first if you can find it though, as it's very discreetly tucked away behind commercial street and very easy to miss.
