Reviews for The Rake
Last year's London bar of the year with TimeOut, this is one of the few places a beer drinker can trust to have first class specials on every week. A tiny little, hard to find spot, but if you enjoy beer, you'll enjoy this place. Wives should use it as a husband creche whilst they shop on Borough Market.
The Rake is a really decent pub, and a bit of a haven in the middle of the market. As you might expect, given that it's owned by beer importers, they have a huge range of bottled beers and an ever-changing lineup on tap. It can work out quite pricey, and a couple of the barmen are a bit on the weird side, but given that it has so many lovely drinks, and some outside space, it's worth it.
A pleasant new find in London Bridge, specialising in all manner of intriguing and tasty foreign beers. The bar is tiny and often rammed but there's room outside. I had a very pleasant time there, even if the staff are a little bit too earnestly quirky and off-the-wall, making them a little bit on the annoying side.
Oh, and there's no food on offer, apart from ridiculously expensive gourmet crisps. Still, I'll forgive them, because the beers were fantastic.
