In 2002, The Cumberland Arms re-opened as an independently-run gastropub. Since then, it has built up quite a reputation among local residents, offices and a few reviewers too. The aim is to serve good beer (including real ales), an exciting Mediterranean menu and a wine list of some 30 wines. The menu offers a daily changing selection of Italian, Spanish and North African dishes. There is seating on the pavement area down the side of the pub.

Reviews for Cumberland Arms

Having worked around the corner, this ended up being our local, and it's not priced as a local. It's quite a pricey gastropub, which could easily make your lunch top out at nearly £15.

If you're there for a quick pint and fancy a snack, better bring them along, because the mixed nuts were invariably a bit stale. Not too bad at £2 a cup, but you ended up feeling a bit sick after too many.

The grub's ok, you get a little bowl with salt and pepper to sprinkle on your meal, and the menu changes daily according to a blackboard.

It's pretty much gastropub by numbers, with a seating area to the side that made it a bit easier to navigate the inside during warm months.

Well - just by seeing your user name I would say that you probably frequent greasy burger joints and the like and wouldn't know a decent, well-priced gastropub if it hit you in the face (like the Cumberland Arms)
I frequently go to this pub and I find it wonderful. The portion are huge, the prices are good and the beer and wine list is extensive! As for bringing in your own snacks - you are clearly rude as well: if you host have a fancy dinner party I am sure that you would not enjoy a guest of your sitting around your dining room table scoffing down a McDonalds because he/she wants something that is not being served at your dinner party.

This pub is a great gastropub. It's battered furniture, dimmed lighting and friendly staff create the perfect atmosphere! The wine list is great with 12 by the glass, they have a variety of lagers and 3 ales on tap at any given time. Their menu is monthly changing with new specials on everyday. I started with the Galician white bean & potato soup with chorizo, ham & kale which was absolutely amazing and actually a meal on it's own! But I couldn't resist have a main as I spotted the seared scallops with wilted spinach & potatoes, sultanas & saffron vinaigrette! It was fabulous!
I had a fantastic meal and was taken extremely good care of by the friendly and relaxed bar staff.
I will definately be back and would recommend this to anyone!
