Reviews for The Champagne Bar

Kings Cross St Pancreas, is not really known as a 'high end' classy joint, but a bar set above the main station does give the dash to the platform a certain vava voom (or that could just be the proximity of the French and less than two hours to Paris Eurostar.

There's a certain charm to sitting on high and being able to survey all that surrounds you whilst supping on champangne. Just one small qualm, unless its a balmy day do make sure you take a cover up, as in the words of 'your mother' things can get a tad chilly and drafty.

Otherwise enjoy take the departure announcements, take in the rush, rush, rush of other passengers and gaze lovingly into your companions eyes before being whisked away on your own journey. Oh the romance.

Sadly my own stopping here was not for a romantic interlude. My train was delayed by two hours, and this seemed more exciting than the local Starbucks.

;-)

Oh and do not be caught out by the lack of a late liscence. One feels the powers that be are missing a trick here. When else would a champagne bar be in more high demand than later on at night... So only three stars, for now.

Damn, could do with one of these at Paddington.

Bet you can't say "lack of a late license" ten times really fast...

Finally made it for a drink at The Champagne Bar in St Pancras International Station and liked it. Yes, a train station is an unlikely venue for the longest champagne bar in Europe, but it works. The bar is located on the upper level of the station, where the Eurostar departs, and the idea is to have a glass or two of bubbly prior to boarding your train - a great way to quick start your holiday.

Arriving at 6pm on a Friday evening for a drink - just a drink, sadly we weren't heading off for a cheeky weekend in Paris - we found there were no seats available, apart from a couple of stools at the bar. These were actually very comfy bar stools and this position had the added bonus of prompt service.

We ordered a glass of Mumm Grand Cru and Gosset Grand Reserve and they were both bubbly delicious. The perfect way to celebrate the end of another working week.

My friend suggested we meet for at St Pancras before heading out to eat as his train arrived at this station. When I arrived to meet him at the statue of the lovers I saw him dangling 2 glasses of bubbly over the banister calling my name. As it turned out there was a glass of champagne with my name on.

All be it the longest champagne bar in Europe at 96metres you will still struggle to get a seat in one of the booths. Maybe this is because its a new bustling venue but all 110 seats were filled & many were standing around sipping the good stuff. There are many types of champagne available, with a equally varied price range from £7.50 a glass of Jean Paul Deville Carte Noire NV (£39.50 a bottle) to an extravagent bottle of Balthazar at £1,100.

The leather seated booths are heated giving comfort to your derrier in this hall like draughty enviroment, however a point to note is the button to heat both opposing seats is only on one side so snuggling up on one seat may leave you out in the cold. Also the toilets are located on the lower floor a fair walk if you have had a couple.
