Reviews for The Volunteer

I used to go the Volunteer very regularly because my friends used to hang out there after work all the time. But after I was overcharged by a huge amount one night, I didn't go back. To be fair, the drinks are decent and the atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable, just what I like (which is why I used to go often).

The place gets extremely crowded after work, especially Thursday-Friday and of course on Saturday. This is when even approaching the bar can be a nightmare and is part of what put me off. After jostling to get to the bar, you have to wait ages for your order. The bartenders are not particularly warm, though they do their job well enough. At the end of the day though, if you treat me like just another customer because you have plenty, then I don't really want to give you my business.

Lots of London Business School students as it is just next door, and young professionals frequent the place.

Go there for a quick drink or two in the early part of the week, and leave well before 11.30 PM, and you should be fine. (if not, you'll get the staff coming to you and saying they'll take your drinks away, before shooing you out).

What a great place! I love the new look and the new menu!

This is such a well managed pub with lovely staff and a great atmosphere. It can get very busy but there is always a great buzz and a great mix of people. I think I counted over 30 beers on tap! wow.

Situated within 5 minutes walk of the ultra busy junction of Baker Street and Marleybone this is a haven of peace from the madness of the metropolis.

Kick of your shoes and enjoy the the interesting mix of the modern lounge music and the Georgian inspired parlor.

As well as a modern European menu you may be tempted by the range of coffee liqueurs, toddies, organic banana cake or indeed soup and baguette.

A refreshing tonic to the winter chill.

Families are welcome and there is a warmed, sheltered area for those who enjoy their tobacco.

A very well thought out and managed establishment.

I was here very briefly for a very quick drink after work this past week but I quite liked it; I didn't spend long enough in the bar or eat anything while there so there's not much that I can write except for a few fleeting observations. It's in Baker St so it attracts quite a large after-work crowd, but they have a good selection of drinks and what looks like a very cute gastro-pub menu. I also noticed a chalkboard advertising afternoon tea which I thought was rather cute. The prices are reasonable and when the weather is nice, the picnic tables are packed. Worth a visit if you are in the area!
