Every area has a quiet really odd pub where the beer is the cheap. In Holloway the Coronet is that kind pub. Although its been slicked up and is enormous inside. It was a large old-style cinema. Now its has mutated in a David Lynch way - with his mixture of the mundane & would-be disconcerting. Inside there are lots of old movie paraphernalia. Projectors, posters, photos - an attempt to keep a veneer of its former old-style movie glamour. But quite frankly the place is a bit weird. Lots of old guys drink here - probably because the beers cheap - £1.70 a pint! With a screed of booths around the outside, no loud music and plenty of room you get a feeling of privacy. Good place if you need a recharge or want to sample live Lynchian action while you chat with your mates.

The Coronet is a lovely old cinema, which has been converted into a very average Wetherspoons.

The main area lacks any kind of ambience (not surprising, as it was originally the main cinema seating area).

The food is standard Wetherspoons fare, the drinks likewise (so occasionally worth popping in to see which random real ales are on if you're a fan)

The pub is useful on two separate sorts of occasions:

1) It's often open when nowhere else is (eg New Years Day)

2) It has, or had, a decent door policy during Arsenal home games, so it was possible to escape from the football crowds near Emirates.

Apart from that, I tend to avoid.

The building has so much potential but its dirty, smelly and the staff aren't nice. Could do with a complete overhaul.
