Reviews for The Lansdowne

Laid back, unpretentious and attracts quite a cool crowd. The food's nothing amazing but I'll let it off.

The Lansdowne is the best pub in Primrose Hill as far as I’m concerned. The pizzas are really good – good quality ingredients on very crispy bases. The chorizo pizza with capers and red onions is particularly good. Parma ham with rocket is another highlight. They come in at around £11 which is fine for a big feed. Hummus with flatbread is a great snack as well.

If you fancy testing the kitchen on its bigger menu it usually does a good job though it’s getting expensive for things like steaks…so if you’re willing to pay £15+ for a main, you might wander down the road to The Engineer which does pretty consistently great gastro-pub food.
Also worth mentioning the daily changing £5 lunch which is a bit of a lottery but usually filling and wholesome – it could be a roast beef sandwich, or pasta or risotto – something like that.

Last night I went with a group of friends for drinks. The beers are fine, if unexciting and the wine list is decent as well. More interesting wines are cropping up on the specials board and we had a few bottles of a decent Pinot Noir from the South of France for £18 a pop. That’s pretty good for this annoyingly expensive grape!

It really wins on atmosphere and layout though. Lots of tables, nice lighting, high ceiling, music-free (okay a bit sad…but you can actually hear what friends are saying!) and full of local folk every night of the week. The toilets have been refurbed recently and are now positively luxurious in comparison to the past (bring on the Dyson Airblades – wohoo!). The staff are a bit up and down but are usually friendly and the manager, Paul, is a really nice bloke. All in all, this is a place that will deliver good experiences time and time again. If you haven’t been there yet I suggest it’s worth a trip down Gloucester Avenue.

We were expecting some gastro food here... Timeout critic choice you know... Our friends who live nearby said the food is great...
I ordered the duck salad. I was not enlightened at all... It was a salad with some beans, lettuce, plums and duck...
The plums, which were supposed to be the ˜kick' ,actually didn't fit with the over salty duck.
My friend had a pizza with anchovies ,capers and egg.
On the first bite, this appeared to be a nice looking pizza but then we consulted with out Italian authorities:
'A good example of Napolitana pizza but the dough is too thin...'
'you can get a similar pizza at Zizzi for £3 less...' (the price was £9 which is pricy for what you get...)
The olived we ordered from the bar were juicy and amazing!
The staff were nice and responsive! We might give this place a second chance but we were indifferent for the culinary experience this time...

An early front runner among London´s gastro pubs, this Primrose Hill fixture is still a class act, delivering good cheer and good food in a well-used, open-plan setting of mismatched wooden furniture. Large wooden tables, high ceilings and dark green tiling give it an old fashioned soup kitchen feel.

This corner pub has enormous plain windows looking out over leafy Primrose Hill, the street thankfully mostly devoid of traffic. The menu is chalked on a blackboard above the fireplace and includes warm salads, soups and perhaps a tart to start, followed by sausages and mash, grilled fish with marinated vegetables and a pasta dish. Flavours are gutsy and robust, colours strong. Sunday means all three courses, the rest of the week you can pick and choose.

The pub has some decent real ales on tap, some unusual organic tipples and plenty of well-chosen wines by the glass.
