nice local bar
Went there on one of the first sunny day of May 2008...
It was nice to sit outside for a change! We ordered chicken which was very tasty. There was no connection between the name and the place... I wonder why it is called Monkey Chews...It was Wednesday evening and there weren't many people around.

Good Pub but loosy Food section
Had heard a lot about Monkey Chews from friends of mine who've been there and all the reviewers seems to highlight all the main points. I can't really rate Monkey Chews on the pub part of it as we only stayed there for one pint. We spent most of our time in the restaurant part of the pub which wasn't impressive. Some of the cutlery was dirty, we were all served at different times and the food wasn't very special. The calamari though we're surprising rather fresh. However I will try Monkey Chews another time for the pub and for the live music, but not again for the food.

dance monkey, dance
Another favourite of my house-mates that I sampled properly for the first time lately. I'd heard good things about this place (surely its Monkey Chews, not Monkeys by the way) and it didn't disappoint, though I reserve the right to alter this opinion based on further visits.
The single best thing is that it was actually OPEN!!! Praise be that a decent bar stayed open after 11pm on a Friday night. For this reason the owners should be saluted. Also the music was pretty good in a catchy, wierd, and ever-so-slightly embarrassing way (to give you an idea, think Frankie Goes to Hollywood and "War, huh, what is it good for?").
Decor was indeed interesting, as were the patrons who appear to be a fun-loving bunch. Definitely worth a second, third and maybe even fourth look to see if it can become our new local hangout.

Cool bar
I remember it took us a while to find it, but once there, I really enjoyed the darkish atmosphere of the bar and most of all, the music. The music really made this place. I also had a quick peek into the restaurant which looked really nice. Haven't tried the food though.

Great night with friends in Chalk Farm
I love Monkey Chews. Everytime I've been there I had an excellent time. A lot of it was because of the company of course, but the great about this place is that it really lets you enjoy your friends company. Can't put my finger to it, but I think it's down to the music, darkish atmosphere, the people there. It just works. It's busy on the weekends but not packed and stays open till late. There aren't many places around, but if you're up for a good session with a bunch of good friends then this is the place.
There is also a restaurant at the back with nice decor, but I haven't sampled their food yet.

Great bar with a really relaxed cool atmosphere. Music is very varied but always outstanding. Decour is also very original.
