Reviews for Southwark Rooms

I am the new owner of the Southwark Rooms and we are making improvements every day, and have been for the last 7 weeks. We are still open for business and so far we have redecorated our cocktail lounge, are in the process of refurbishing the toilets, upgraded our web site, improved our champagne and cocktail menus and are offering daily “Borough Market” specials. We still have lots to do but we are getting there and making good progress. Please come in and let us know your thoughts on what we've done so far.

We visited The Southwark Rooms for lunch a couple of weeks ago, we were greeted by the friendly staff given a menu and our drinks orders were taken. The food menu is pretty basic but the quality is top notch. Service is quick and with a smile so you can be in and out within your hours lunch break, it does tend to be busier on a Friday so it would be worth booking a table in advance.

Some bars thrive on their atmosphere, their menu, the skills of their barmen, or their amazing decor. Some on all of these. Others continue to trade solely by dint of their location, and Southwark Rooms is such a place. If you work nearby, it's a handy place to fall into of an evening, and they're usually very accommodating when it comes to reserving the downstairs bit for large groups. Take that as a positive or a negative as you will.

However, it's not somewhere you'd want to go for either a quiet or a particularly remarkable drink. Think warm-ish beers (what's wrong with their fridges? Every time I go I get a warm beer!), so-so basic cocktails, limp wine list and basically the sort of bland, careless experience you get in a thousand provincial high street bars, and you're almost there.

Possibly a bit harsh, but with so many brilliant places within 5 minutes' walk, life's just too short.
