For me, Canary Wharf is two great things – a wonderful place to shop, and a lovely modern square where I can enjoy looking at the financial headlines and the Swiss Railway Watches mounted on poles around the square. The shopping really is excellent – lots of niche shops, good places to eat (including Itsu), a Waitrose to stock up on the week’s groceries, and all sited in a bright and modern environment.

One down side – I had occasion to go with someone who is disabled, and the disabled lifts are located behind the scenes. What a contrast! Bare concrete and a very unwelcoming atmosphere. We returned to the hustle and bustle of the ‘real’ shopping centre as soon as we could, a little chastened.

If you are looking for something to do around London, I would recommend Canary Wharf area. The easiest way to get there is via Docklands Light Railway (which in itself is fun to ride - for kids) or Jubilee line on the Underground. Both stations are called Canary Wharf. Once you get there, you could either walk around the area and see how tall buildings occupied by Investment Banks are cropping up, or do a pub-crawl. Of course, there are two shopping centers for the shopaholics among you. However, the best I like is sitting idly around the fountain and then walking towards the tall Barclays building to get to the park which has a huge TV screen showing current in thing to view.
