Located in deepest Marylebone, Low Life is mainly a music venue with a basement bar that serves beers, wines, spirits and cocktails as well as various snacks. Adorned with Persian rugs and cushions, it emanates more of a homely feel - proving it to be a popular venue for worker bees after a hard day at the office.
The guy who runs Low Life is a complete legend called James. I've never met a mixologist like him. He's inspired. He has an uncanny ability to know exactly what you want even though you haven't got a clue yourself.
You can walk in on a Thursday after a long slog at work and he will greet you with open arms and enthusiastically make you a drink he's been working on for the last 2 weeks that no one else has tried and it will be perfect.
He even invented a new way of drinking tequila which is to eat a grape before you take your shot of Sausa and then have another one after... Sauza Grapes. It makes a brilliant alternative to the ubiquitous lemon and salt.
The bar itelf is below street level with quite a few nooks and crannies. It's a great place for private parties - they serve a range of snacks and small plates of food to share.
But it's all about the cocktails. The guy and the rest of his staff and insanely talented and couldn't be more charming.
